Made in America will supply you with interesting facts and cocktail chatter for a year or more. Did you know, for example, that Teddy Roosevelt's "speak softly and carry a big stick" credo has its roots in a West African proverb? Or that actor Walter Matthau's given name is Walter Mattaschanskayasky? Or that the supposedly frigid Puritans--who called themselves "Saints," by the way--had something called a pre-contract, which was a license for premarital sex? Made in America is an excellent discussion of American English, but what makes the book such a treasure is that it offers much, much more.
Hi all,
I want to improve my social and communication skill in English. So I created a study group to read Dale Carnegie's classical book 'How to win friends and influence people' and have weekly meetings to discuss it and practice communication skill. The address for this group is https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/howtowinfriendsstudygroup
This group only speaks English.
Since I live in America, the weekly meeting time should be between 9am - 9pm UTC-7 timezone, Saturday or Sunday.
Every member should contribute at least 5 hours to read the book and read 2 - 3 chapters every week
This book has around 30 chapters in total. So it will take 2.5 - 4 months to finish this. The pace can be faster if we discover that the book is easy to read.
The deadline to join this study group is July 19, 2019.
If you feel this group is a good fit for you, join us!
