to Cycling UK Reading
I joined the leisurely ride ably led by John Mitchell. Nine of us assembled on the Englefield Estate adjacent to the Tea Rooms at 10.30. This is one of our local favoured start points for club Wednesday rides. Although not open on Sunday it provides ample car parking for those not wishing to add additional cycle miles to the group ride. The warmer weather had brought out Claire & Derek along with regular riders of mixed ability - Clive, Barry, Fred, Wie San & Lesley. Our destination was the village store at Hampstead Norreys which we were aware closes at noon. This is an excellent stopping off point nestled in the Berkshire Downs midway between Streatley & Newbury on the B4009. The Community Shop & Cafe also has a patio seating area facing south which is a sun trap whenever he appears. It was also an ideal distance for our 20 mile ride out from the Reading area. Thank you John for suggesting & leading this ride. It can certainly be repeated & also the destination likely used on other longer rides too. The route itself was more than suitable for beginners or returners as we experienced only gentle climbs although there was about 500 metres of ascent. Our next Leisurely Ride will be on 11 May.
