to Cycling UK Reading
This was the first Saturday ride I’d led since mid May. During the 3 months in between no less than 10 other members have led Saturday rides. For 3 of these leaders it was their first. You’ve done us all proud with a great variety of diverse & innovative routes of your own.
Today’s route was relatively simple. 6 of us met in Theale & we were joined by a seventh member at our cafe stop at Charter Alley. Weather was cooler as of late with the need for a second layer most of the time as the breeze had a chill & the sun was shy. It was noted that several roads on our route have been improved recently but it’s difficult to understand the logic of why some have been repaired yet others more worthy of repair have not. Very little traffic or other cyclists although we did encounter a number of very large coaches ferrying people to & from events taking place at Bradfield College.
The route: North Street, Bradfield, Chapel Row, Upper Bucklebury, Midgham, Axmansford, Stony Heath, Ramsdell, Charter Alley, Pamber End, Little London, Calleva, Beech Hill. At this point the group split to go their separate ways.
My stats door to door were 53 miles. Thanks to Simon, Clive, Barry, Annette, Jeffrey & Gary for joining me.
Next week’s ride will be led by Tony from Beech Hill.
