Sociology: A Brief Introduction Book in pdf

In this review of an introductory course in sociology, I will discuss the field of sociology, with particular reference to its history and current state of knowledge about social behavior and phenomena. Sociology has been called the science of social life; it is concerned with the study of the various arrangements of men within the social world. The field is also concerned with how people understand their relation to the surrounding environment and how they make use of and interact with it. It is an essential field of study as it provides a framework in which social problems can be solved.
The course overview starts out with an introduction to the general nature of sociology and then goes into the historical development of the discipline. An account is made of the developments that have happened since the middle of the eighteenth century up to the present. An overview is then made of the major works on the sociological theories that have been written during the history of the subject, with special reference made to Jean Piaget's" Theory of Cognitive Development". A short personal reflection is then conducted from the perspective of a student in sociology, and after this the course concludes with an introduction to "Sociological Methodologies" and their application in the field.
There are many interesting chapters that deal with issues like why people behave the way they do, what causes social conflicts, the nature of prejudice, how communal institutions help or hurt society and so on. But the most interesting part of the review is that in the second half of the book the author unpacks some of the most important issues in detail. For example, he considers what happens when a couple decides to have children. He looks at different conceptions of happiness, and the effects that various ideas have on people. It is a great introduction to the topic of sociology and one that I recommend for any students taking an Introductory class in sociology.
