Crafting & Executing Strategy: The Quest for Competitive Advantage is a short book written by Gary Player. It contains eleven case studies that show what types of marketing strategies are effective in the markets. This includes creating a competitive edge, marketing to a specific audience, and creating a brand. These case studies provide detailed descriptions and examples of how and why certain strategies are effective. The authors also go over strategies related to media buying and branding.

The main focus of this book is on marketing to specific markets. The book does not delve too deeply into market research, demographics or consumer behavior. However, I liked that the authors take a case by case approach and explain each case from the perspective of the clients and focus on how they broke free from the deadlock of traditional marketing. Case studies also lend more credibility to the research presented.

The book contains many case studies, but does tend to lean more heavily towards creative branding and client strategies. This book provides a great deal of practical information. It does not over promote but instead focuses on practical application. Overall, this is an excellent text on crafting & executing the strategy.
