Finding Your Talent

- By Tyler McKinna

When setting out on your journey of life and what you want to achieve, persistence is one of the most important attributes. If you examine the people in your life that are the most successful and have reached their goals, the majority of them have failed at least once along the way.

People naturally have an affinity and talents for certain things, while other things cause them a lot of frustration as they struggle to get through it. It is important to be persistent in finding and focusing on those things for which you have a natural talent. That doesn't mean that you should ignore your weaknesses, but focusing on your talents is a smart way to achieve your goals in life.

It may take several attempts to identify your true talents and gifts, so persistence is the key. I firmly believe that we are all very good at something; we just need to find out what that something is. Think about the most successful people that you know. Chances are some of those people didn't finish high school and still went on to become very successful.

I am a firm believer that academic education is important. However, I also believe that just as there are some people that are gifted academically, there are those who are destined to struggle in school. Now, don't get me wrong, these people are not dumb. These people have other talents that are not brought to the fore in the academic setting. These people may be stellar artists, musicians, businessmen, athletes, actors, or builders. There are plenty of successful people in history whose talents and abilities were overshadowed during their younger years by their lack of ability in school.

It takes determination and persistence to make a difference in your life and the lives of others. I challenge you now to find your talent and focus on that talent. You will be surprised at the success that you will achieve and the goals that you will reach when you leverage your talent to the best of your ability.
