Some of the London hackspace guys are planning to turn a caravan into the
bridge of a spaceship for playing Artemis. Smoke machines and pyro then
provide effects for incoming hits.

I am thinking about making a big (1.6M diameter) POV ball. However, some
of the numbers get a bit scary - 280 mph and over 400G at the equator, and
a pixel update rate of 2.5MHz.

There is no way I could afford a perspex ball big enough for this, so it would need safety
barriers and lots of clearance, probably more space than would be allowed :(

We should have a presence..... but what we could do there I don't know....

We could do something with fireworks or explosives? (Everybody loves things that explode) Or some kind of rocketry thing?

Why on earth is it in Newcastle?  Don't they know that is the middle of nowhere!? :)

Talking to Mike Agg at Reading Skeptics he is very keen to get us involved in Reading Science week. The proposal is to have some sort of mini maker fair, on either of the Sundays of the week. That would be 17 or 24 March 2013

What we were discussing is more projects in progress, rather than things that are complete.

He is trying to get the Town Hall as the venue, but the alternative might be the Jelly arts place.

Thoughts?

Certainly from a Hackspace perspective I'd have thought we'd be interested. Is it just like a stand with people or some kind of active display/workshop type thing?

Hello Hackerspace Folks

To answer Noro's question, it's in Newcastle because their Science Week found funding to have the Faire there before any Faire had been held outside of the US. They have found funding to pump into the Faire every year since 2009 except last year (that's my understanding of it).

As you probably know there will be a UK Maker Faire in Newcastle on 27th & 28th April 2013 after a few conversations with the organisers O'Reilly it's been suggested that Hackerspaces could have a slightly more coordinated effort or presence at the UK Maker Faire. To this end O'Reilly are providing a Hackerspaces area which is to include Mitch Altmans' soldering tables.

It's proposed that there will be a joint Hackerspaces table/area for UK and Irish Hackerspaces at the Faire. This is likely to consist of information about the UK & Irish Hackerspaces, where more information can be found or how to go about setting up a Hackerspace. It's likely to include lots of photos & videos about Hackerspaces a mailing list form for more information (probably propagated back to their local hackspace) and a really big interactive map with existing hackerspaces marked with QR codes and information about them.

The combined effort isn't intended to replace anything you are already planning for the Faire. If you or your Hackerspace want to have your own exhibit or table at the Faire you still need to complete the Call to Makers on the UK Maker Faire webpage.

If you would like to help with the combined Hackerspaces table/area then please do complete this form

thank you
