Thanks to a very generous dontation from Richard and a little hardware
hacking to sort it out, we now have a high-specification 25L ultrasound
cleaning bath. Details are available at
https://rlabwiki.legionelectronics.co.uk/wiki/Tools/ultrasound

If you need any help using it please contact me or read the manual that
richard has been kind enough to write and the manual we've found for a
similar model which are linked from the URL above

Cool, thanks Steve/Richard. Just one question, what would one clean in an Ultrasound cleaner bath?

Anything that has fine details and areas where it's difficult to scrub
manually, Jewelery, bike parts, cars parts, general machine parts
especially things that have screw threads or small holes.

I guess we need to make sure people realise the fluid is toxic and should not be touched if it can be helped.

When i was younger we worked in a warehouse doing PCB construction and after soldering we had to put the boards in the cleaner
When it was really hot some of the guys would splash the liquid all over their faces and bodies until the senior tech pointed out it caused cancer....

That might be true of the older solvent-based PCB cleaners, but the
stuff we've been given for use with this one is water based and
basically just a really strong detergent. You should certainly not be
drinking it and it's important to avoid prolonged contact with the
concentrate or getting it in your eyes, but the made-up solution is not
much worse than strong washing up liquid.

You'll certainly want to keep it out of your eyes so goggles never hurt,
and prolonged skin contact is likely to result in irritation but so long
as it's promptly washed off you shouldn't expect any problems, it's not
a known carcinogen. I'll get hold of the MSDS for it and shove it up on
the wiki later.
