Hi Derek,

it might be useful for some of the 3DP workshops I do with schools etc - how transportable is it?

the framework is steel. It move around quite easily once its assembled. disassembled it would probably fit in an estate car

*If* (and only if) it's going to be turn into pieces, I could be interested by the projector itself.

In one piece I think that we could easily find a good place for it in the lab

Malcolm & I do 3D Printing workshops/outreach with schools and libraries
where we typically have 10 pupils running CAD software. My thought was
to keep the smartboard intact and use it to guide the class though it
depends on how big it is and if it can be readily transpored with our 3D
printers and gear.

The lab already has a projector and smartboard though I'm not sure how
operational the latter is.

actually, I've just re-read Derek's original email and this board is 3m
which would preclude easy transport so I'm not sure it would be
practical for what I envisage.

The board in the main room is basically just a white board. We have no software/capability or even know if the smart bit works.

By the way, that remind me that the current HDMI to miniHDMI adapter seems to be not working, the cable itself is OK.
I plugged device that have miniHDMI output and they worked perfectly, anything with normal HDMI using the converter wasn't working.

I would like to have a look at it before ruling it out of hand completely, if that is still possible?

As David says, we have a potential application for this setup. The main issue is whether we can transport it readily. Notwithstanding the size, Derek did say that he thought that it would fit in an estate car.

I could assess/guesstimate the fit.

Derek, where is the unit now and would it be accessible during the day?

If nothing else, I could use it at Grow @ Green Park, or perhaps we could swap it for the one we currently have that is not usable as a smart board - the short throw projector would make it more useful for meetings and videoconferences.  I could give a home to the old board.

Tapped on my mobile phone.

Could be disassembled and wall mounted in place of the current non-working smart board at the hackspace if anyone wanted to do that?

Maybe this could be why the projector wasn't working with the nVidia tablet when I tried it, I just assumed a driver problem.

Projector works, smartboard works, just aren't connected together.

Certainly the board can come off the stand and the projector wall mounted.  It's over at work in Bracknell. I'll have a go at dismantling it this weekend and bringing it over to Rlab - I don't own an estate car anymore, so it may take a few runs. If anyone has larger carrying capacity and available this weekend and doesn't mind doing a Bracknell -> Rlab run let me know.

As I indicated, I was interested in seeing if it would fit in my SUV for use in outreach 3DP projects Malcolm and I do with schools, libraries etc. In which case I could come over on the weekend (Saturday afternoon) to help dismantle and load.

I could pick up my Raspberry pi and pi-cams at the same time.

I was probably going to do a run over to rLab today if that would help and could easily pop over to Bracknell does that help? I may also able to pick up at the weekend. What is the max size I need to fit?

sorry i've only just got back to the thread. So yes we can do a run over to Bracknell tomorrow. (Dave / Jeremy). Should we meet at Rlab and go from there?

As for Max size. It kind of depends how much we can dismantle it. The board itself is approx 1.5x1.0m The stand (which it can be dismounted from) stands about 2m tall and is about 500mm wide at the base. I expect we'd be able to dismantle it a bit. It also has a hydraulic vertical post some it might be compressible to a shorter size.

Derek & I spent part of Saturday dismantling the smart board etc, it's humungous.

It is a 3M SCP712 projector system (http://www.projectorcentral.com/3M-Super_Close_Projection_System_SCP712.htm) comprising projector, wall mounted arm and IO panel together with a 3M DB57B Ditial Whiteboard (http://www.touchboards.com/a3m/db578.asp).

The Whiteboard is 2m x 1.5m, quite heavy and would't fit in my SUV. It has an eBeam sensor attached with two pens which uses proprietary Windows software to drive and annotate powerpoint chartware. There is some software here - http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Meetings/Home/Support/ProductSoftware/SuperCloseProjectors/

The board is at the Jealotts Hill campus along with the wheeled stand.

I have left the wall mounted arm and whiteboard brackets at rlab under the existing whiteboard in the main room. The wall mount has a plate which can take a projector, speakers and routes cabling from the projector mount back to the wall. There is also an I/O module that can terminate the wiring and includes a simplified control panel. I've been trying to track down documentation for this but without much luck so far.

Malcolm and I assessed the projector yesterday, we plan on fitting a replacement lamp and using it for the 3DP sessions we do with TeenTech etc as a way to reduce the number of people needed to run these sessions.

So it that the the white board needs collecting by someone with a larger vehicle?

Yes, the board was about 30cms too long for my SUV.
