Hello everyone,

I hope you're all well. As an old member, I’m reaching out for a bit of help with a rather ambitious project I’ve undertaken.

I’ve taken on the daunting task of restoring a 96-year-old Dunkirk Little Ship that’s listed on the historic ship register and ADLS. This vessel is truly special, having played a significant role at Dunkirk where it saved the lives of many soldiers. She spent a month in Dunkirk. After Dunkirk, she was immediately requisitioned into the Royal Navy Auxiliary Patrol. Unfortunately, she’s in terrible condition now, and urgent work is needed to save her.

The freshwater leaks were destroying her, so the first priority was to get her watertight. However, after removing the deck, we discovered that the beams underneath are completely rotten. This has severely compromised her structural integrity, and until these beams are replaced, the new deck cannot go on. If she isn’t repaired quickly, we risk losing her forever.

I’ve managed to find a timber merchant willing to open on Monday specifically for this purpose. However, I currently have no means of cutting the required 3m by 2” thick European oak boards, which need to be 8” wide to fit the curve of the beam deck. A router table might also do the trick.

I’m in desperate need of help to have at least 5 of these made up as quickly as possible, though 12 would be better. If anyone can offer their time, expertise, or even some support with an induction, it would be greatly appreciated. There’s even the possibility of some funding for those willing to lend a hand.

Thank you for considering this. Any assistance in preserving this piece of history would be very meaningful!

Gary

The Mitre saw for the Library of Things might be what you are looking for. Rlab tools can only be used at rlab.

You will probably need some other tools as well.
