But what on earth it that monstrosity of a cable for!!???  I am guessing testing…

It's like the famed "user testing cable" from the BOFH: 3-pin mains
plug on one end. RJ45 on the other end. Give it to the user who's
bothering you, and tell them to plug it into their machine...

A CCTV camera yesterday had 12V on an IEC to 3.5mm jack. The vendor wants £25 for each of their cables!!I know it's mad using an IEC for low voltage in a mixed environment.
