I am interested in trying to laser cut some 6mm melamine covered MDF on the Piranha laser cutter (1000mm x 500mm sheet).

I believe that is should be possible but would like guidance from the more experienced laser cutters in the group.

Is this

a) a piece of cake?
b) feasible but requiring certain conditions to be met? If so please advise on what those are)
c) not to be attempted under any circumstances?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Malcolm

From a quick google, looks like it could be OK.

I was going to do some more training on the cutter wasn't I?

I was also thinking of writing some instructions on how to add a material to the library.

One of these days....!!!!

That is why I posted.

My Google-fu led me to the same conclusion but I could find nothing that I would regard as definitive either way.

I assume that the next step is to buy a small amount and try some test cuts?

Melamine, slightly off topic, is a tough sonofabitch.

Had to drill through some thick bowls, tough and slippery and very very heat resistant (obs).

Killed some decent tipped hole saws, carbide next time.

No idea about lasering. Good luck. R

Ps. Have 640mm printer Base in and bearing mount set up. Real progress.
