Folks!

We have elected to wrap up Haskell reading after two more meetings. This
means that we will start Rust reading in *approximately six weeks* --
around May 25!

As such, we need to make some plans.

We need to choose a book to read. There are two options that I'm aware
of right now: Klabnik & Nichols, "The Rust Programming Language" [0] and
Blandy & Orendorff, "Programming Rust: Fast, Safe Systems Development"
[1]. I'm open to other suggestions too.

(I suggest you take a look at the tables of contents on Amazon via "Look
Inside".)

Neither of these books have exercises. We plan to supplement them with
exercises from a few sources:

Algorithms-related exercises taken from an algorithms book. CLRS,
"Introduction to Algorithms" [2] (you know, *that* algorithms book) is
one source we're leaning towards. Another is Weiss, "Data Structures and
Algorithm Analysis in C++" [3].

University class projects. C/C++ ones should fit pretty well with Rust.
Euan mentioned that his university had students write a raytracer. My
university has a class featuring some numerical methods work in C++ [4].
We're very much looking for other material here!

Stuff we make up ourselves or borrowed from miscellaneous sources. This
should especially be handy for the beginning chapters before we know
enough to do meatier exercises.

Reply to this email with long-form opinions and suggestions!

We also need to set a topic schedule and a meeting time. Let's do this
after we pick the book and get a headcount; keep an eye on your inbox!

Yours in lambdas and oxidization,

Well, it looks like I don't know how to copy URLs. The google form link
should be this:
