The Terrible Question is terribly hard to form. I have begun to try
an attempt at it, but it promises to be one that will take some time.
Here's the beginning of it . . .
What IS it, about the Gentile and Islamic cultures, that both are
continually seeking a scapegoat for all the perceived ills of the
world in the Jewish People? Go on ahead and ask them, or ask the most
outspoken bigots among them, and they will have an answer for you, but
it will come in form of another question. They will say, "What do you
mean, what is it about our cultures? Ask rather what it is about
Jewish culture that is always and continually rubbing us the wrong
way!"
Can I put myself into the mind of the bigot who would ask that
question? Or is there any possibility that it is not a bigoted
question? Only more thought and care given to the matter will tell.
