Threemonths ago the owners of the American Dream mall in the New Jersey Meadowlands were fending off financial creditors who smelled blood due to a loan default. Now, the mall is celebrating the arrival of some natural predators, and over 3,000 sea creatures it hopes will help lure crowds.

The aquarium and Legoland Discovery Center are two attractions with the potential to draw families in the populous New York metropolitan area for repeat visits. They are also two attractions where visiting families might have the time, energy or spare cash for some shopping afterwards, unlike the on-site amusement park, water park, or indoor ski slope.

Sea Life is known for its interactive exhibits, kids-eye-view displays and tanks, educational events, and its commitment to ocean conservation and high sourcing standards for the fish in its aquariums.

The aquarium and Legoland Discovery Center are opening at a time when masking and other Covid restrictions are being lifted in New Jersey and around the country, and as shoppers are returning to malls in encouraging numbers.

When the sharks first arrived in the tank, Weddle said, the staff studied their eating habits and tracked when and how much they ate and learned how much food they needed to prevent them from taking a bite out of another inhabitant of the tank.

American Dream has satisfied its creditors for now. But to keep the financial sharks at bay it needs to reel in more retail tenants and restaurants, and demonstrate that it can draw a steady stream of shoppers with money to spend.

In the heart of Casablanca, Morocco, lies the captivating aquatic haven known as Aqua Dream. Nestled within the iconic Morocco Mall, this engineering and architectural marvel by ARUP boasts a grandeur aquarium by ICM Corp with unparalleled features. With a colossal acrylic structure of 13.4 meters in diameter and 9.3 meters in height, it holds over 1 million liters of water. Home to 3,000 marine inhabitants, including sharks, rays, and tropical fish, Aquadream invites visitors to a surreal journey of discovery.

Aqua Dream transcends conventional aquariums through its 11 immersive zones. From the Amazon River to the Red Sea, each zone mirrors distinct marine habitats. The enchanting spectacle continues with a dedicated shark zone, unveiling the mysteries of these majestic creatures. Interactive exhibits tantalize senses and a theater educates on marine conservation. From early morning till evening, the doors of Aquadream are open, offering a window into the wonders of the aquatic realm, a cherished destination for both locals and travelers.

The larger-than-life American Dream Mall has added two new kid-friendly destinations to its ever-expanding lineup: Sea Life Aquarium and Legoland Discovery Center are now open and welcoming visitors in the mall's A Court, adjacent to the indoor ski slope Big Snow.

The new attractions join Nickelodeon Universe, DreamWorks Water Park, and a 22,000-square-foot candy store to add to the wonderland atmosphere of the mall, which is an easy day trip destination from much of the metro area.

Sticking with the city theme, the Jellies 54 tank was a fun, eye-catching attraction, letting kids control the lighting in the tank and transforming the moon jellies' look with the press of a button to lend a different hue to the tank each time.

All told, there are 10 exhibits on your journey through the City Under the Sea, and it's likely you can cover the aquarium in less than 2 hours. My girls loved the water-enclosed tunnels throughout and the fact that several small enclosures allowed you to get up close to the sea creatures at Sea Life.

The black-lit Reef at Night and the Stingray Bay, with its round-sided enclosure at the just-right level for kids to get a good look were also standouts. We loved the theater-style seating overlooking the main tank and the funky soundtrack that encouraged guests to linger and enjoy the mesmerizing underwater view.

Tickets to visit Sea Life only are $28.99 for adults and $23.99 for children ages 2 and older. Tickets are time-specific and should be booked online in advance to guarantee entry. Once inside, you can spend as much time as you like exploring.

American Dream's Legoland Discovery Center is the attraction's second location in the tristate area, following the Ridge Hill location in Westchester. Once inside, you'll encounter a Lego-lovers wonderland.

Little builders can get hands-on in a variety of attractions. We hit the Lego Friends tables for a bit before hightailing it to the Creative Workshop, where my girls took a class from a Master Builder and learned how to build an adorable baby chick. New models are introduced each month, but temper your hopes: If you fall in love with your character, you'll have to purchase one from the gift shop to take it home.

A 4-D theater plays a variety of Lego-themed short flicks all day long, and little kids will love the Duplo Park, where they can play with chunky Lego bricks, explore touchable models, whoosh down a mini-slide, and more.

There's also a build-and-test track where you can try your hand at building the speediest model and an earthquake shake table to test your engineering skills. A Ninjago-themed soft-play area offers a safe space for romping with two stories of equipment to explore. Lego characters make occasional appearances, too.

The eye-catching centerpiece to it all is, of course, Miniland where models of popular Garden State attractions plus the New York City skyline await. We especially loved seeing the lighting transform the display into a nightscape and were thrilled with the animated fireworks display above Central Park.

Like its Sea Life counterpart, the exit takes you through a gift shop, where, yes, we bought the $5 mini-chick kit and some Lego Dots, which felt like a bargain compared to all the complex models dotting the shelves.

While I attended with my daughters, ages 7 and 11, the attractions definitely skew toward a younger audience. My 7-year-old was enamored and constantly entertained, while my older daughter was ready to move on sooner. Indeed, I would say the sweet spot for these attractions is the 2-10-year-old range. Their proximity to one another will easily fill a half-day outing.

Consider booking a combo pass for the best deal, which starts at $43.99 for adults and $38.99 for children and allows access to both Legoland Discovery Center and Sea Life Aquarium. Annual passes can be purchased for either attraction alone or both attractions together; a Gold Pass runs $229.99 per person ages 3+ and grants access to all Legoland Discovery Centers, Legoland parks, plus Madame Tussauds for a full year. See all annual pass options for further details.

The warmer months are finally here! You know what that means? That means it's time for all of the warm activities like going to the park, going to the zoo, and going to the aquarium. Going to the aquarium is actually one of my favorite things to do as soon as it starts to get nice outside because it just puts me in a better mood. Well I have some really good news. The New Jersey Sea Life Aquarium is opening in May at American Dream Mall.

This is the first year that the aquarium will be officially open. It was supposed to open last year on April 23rd 2020, but as we know covid-19 struck and everything had to shut down. I was honestly scared that the mall was never going to reopen. The mall just opened a couple months before the pandemic hit the US.

All of our displays were designed and manufactured in house at ATL. Where possoible the tanks were manufactured as complete unit but where size did others in sections due their overall size.

As well as the stand alone aquarium displays ATL also manufactured installed and sealed the large ocean tank viewing panels for the American dream aquarium project.

The acrylic viewing panels for the sites largest tank, the ocean display, included a 270 degree walk through acrylic tunnel, 180 degree walk through acrylic tunnels, large blown acrylic domes and large flat acrylic theatre windows. Acrylic deliveries into an under construction mall requires very careful planning and co ordination with local contractors and product handling specialists.

A significant part of this project was the production of the in tank decor and theming. This was a quite unique brief and nothing quite like any other SEALIFE project to date for us.

For example in addition to more conventional geological rock forms the ocean tank includes a series of scaled versions of famous New York skyline building features, all with a subtle twist of added quirkiness. The Empire Skate building, Whaledorf Astoria, Coraliser, Fishlife Building, Brooklyn Bridge and even a statue of Liberty all provide a very stylized view of New Yorks most iconic landmarks.

As ever we delivered another amazing SEALIFE project often referred to as the American dream aquarium. The planned aquarium opening was delayed until earlier this summer due to the effects of the global pandemic. More details can be viewed online or by clicking this
