The Reading Room and Filmvirus present 'Death of the Authors!', a screening program inspired by intimate liaison between literature and film. 'The Chinese Botanist's Daughters' and 'Successive Slidings of Pleasure' sees the authors, Sijie Dai and Alain Robbe-Grillet directed films based on their own texts.

A forbidden love in 80s China. Li Ming leaves the orphanage, and in order to continue studying, reaches a botanical centre managed by a shy and authoritarian professor who lives with his daughter An. Unlike her father, An is an outgoing girl and welcomes Ming with enthusiasm and joy. Before long the complicity between the girls becomes a heart wrenching and dangerous attraction. "The Chinese Botanist's Daughters" is a follow-up of French-Chinese director Sijie Dai's Golden Globe-nominated "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress" made in 2002.

A seductive girl, a murder of her room-mate, a detective, clergy and lawyer seduced and intrigued by the possible murderess who keeps getting naked and who may have supernatural powers.
