Mostly primary schools in the Orissa villages are run by single teacher.
And enrollments in the schools are lowest among the states in Orissa.
However learning outcome in reading has marginally enhanced in the state, says the state version of the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) -2008.
The ASER was released by Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Higher Education, Madhu Sudan Padhi, here on 24 February.
Nikunja Bihari Dhal, State Project Director, Orissa Primary Education Project Authority (OPEPA), Dhiren K Roy, Dhanada Kanta Mishra, State Advisor Pratham and Sudarsan Das, Secretary – Human Development Foundation graced the occasion.

He said more emphasis should be
given on the access, equity and quality of education.
Mr.Padhi also called for greater community participation in the implementation of the Sarva Sikhsa Abhiyan.
Mr. Dhal, SPD, OPEPA lauded the reliability of ASER findings which is seen to be similar to the NCERT results.
According to ASER findings four states HP, Chattisgarh, Orissa and Maharashtra have shown improvement in learning achievements and also with regard to the percentage of school going children.
He also discussed at length the changed focus of Sarva Sikhsa Abhiyan on Learning Enhancement as opposed to enrollment and infrastructure in earlier years.
As a result a number of steps are being taken by OPEPA to improve outcomes in collaboration with civil society organizations.

can be shared in districts.
The program was attended by nearly 250 participants that included personnel from Pratham, Government officials, NGOs members.
