Hello all,

The 0.8 release of Ready is now officially out. See the changes here:

For Mac and Windows you can download an executable here:

For Linux it is probably easier to build it yourself, since we can now use the in-built packages for VTK and wxWidgets on many distros. See the instructions here:

A couple of highlights of things that have changed since 0.7:

1. You can export a sequence of 3D mesh surfaces as OBJ. This lets you produce renders like this:
A Blender script to help, with instructions:

2. You can import a mesh to paint into a 3D volume. This lets you do things like this:

Hi Tim, I am curious how you import the 3D mesh (custom) like that bunny mesh... and then ended up with cool pattern like that? Do you have video tutorial of some sort that I could study?

The bunny example works, but whenever I brought in my own mesh, it does this very strange uninteresting simulation, just like pop into blue. No reaction whatsoever. Is there something I missed?

Hello all.

the same happens to me.
no matter what obj mesh i imported, it always disappears and nothing happens like the bunny example. (RD volume filling)
no matter which parameters i use from k = 0.0001 to the standard 0.064 and above. the same with all the other parameters.
testing for hours mith different parameter values - allwas the same result. it disappears.

what am i doing wrong?

bye

Check the OBJ mesh of example that works vs OBJ mesh that does not work. Sometimes there is this weird typo or character differences. If you are exporting using Blender, there is one setting you need to turn off or on.

I was playing arround with it a bit. And in order to see someething happend in 3D you need to set some initial conditions in chemical a or b by painting something with the pen or brush...or by adding and image to one of the chemicals...all this after importing the a mesh. I've got something going, but nothing similar of what Torolf shows (hey! Torolf...huuuge fan of your math art here :) ). We have to keep playing with it :) ...

Great work Torolf. It would be great if you could provide some steps to get to a similar place where you got. I have trouble opening a mesh and setting it as the volume bounds. Could you share with us some tips?

Hello Tim :)

The 3d demos are all created with the version Ready 0.5 or 0.6 beta :)

With version ready v. 0.6, 0.72 or 0.8 there seems to be a OpenCl error!
Only 14% of the GPU is used for 3d surface calculations and only 3 to 4% for volume 3d. With the system Windows 7 or 10, graphics card: Nvidia Quadro FX and NVIDIA-GeForce-600, 700, 900-series and no dual GPU Nvidia-GeForce-690 (OpenCl v. 1.1)

Hi Torolf!

I am an architecture student and I am exploring the possibility of using 3D reaction diffusion in formal exploration. Could you give me a hint at how you limited the 3D RD patterns to the shape of the rabbit. I have played around in Ready but am unable to figure it out :(. Thank you!

Best,

Thank you so much for the wonderful software Ready! I use it in combination with Cinema 4D and it is so powerful
