MOUNTAINTOP 04 Apr 07 Please Distribute Widely !
* We would like you to know of our plans to have a year-long campaign to deal with the
CURRENT STATE OF RACE RELATIONS, POVERTY, and VIOLENCE in the Greater Dayton Area.
* We believe that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was not only a great civil rights leader but a visionary whose concept of nonviolent approaches to issues of injustice is the only viable method for achieving lasting improvements in the human condition.
* During the coming year, as we prepare for the 2008, 40th anniversary of Dr. King's martyrdom, we think it's appropriate to reassess where we, as a community, are on the road to the Mountaintop.

MAKING THE MARTIN LUTHER KING DREAM REAL:
A COLLABORATIVE, CAPACITY BUILDING, YEAR-LONG EFFORT FOR DEALING WITH
RACISM, VIOLENCE, AND POVERTY IN THE GREATER DAYTON AREA
On April 4, 1968, 39 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated. Although Dayton, like other cities across the country, participates in the official, annual MLK day, issues of bias, bigotry, violence, poverty, and racism remain a stumbling block to growth, investments, and the overall well-being of our community.
* Many people and organizations are working on these issues, but what new connections and relationships can be formed?
* How can we Be that's different from how we've Been?
* What are public office holders and institutions doing that perpetuate the problems?
* What are the questions we need to be asking?
* What are the Real Issues behind racism, violence, and poverty in Dayton?
Join us On April 4, 2007 for an innovative, collaborative, action-oriented Town Hall Conversation where citizens, participants from government, non-profits, businesses, and other institutions will all come together to share, learn from each other, and design a community-wide action-plan for making Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's dream for America real in the Greater Dayton area. What a befitting way to work toward the 40th Anniversary of the assassination of this visionary American.
