Help on installing RE3 on a Mac

Hi Jesse/everyone,

I haven't been able to install RE2/3 on any of my Macs with OSes after Mavericks (10.9.x); the app icon is crossed out, and an error window pops up with the message, "...can't open the application because it is not supported on this type of Mac".

I've installed both the latest Java as well as legacy Java for macOS 2017-001, and I've tried the following (Gatekeeper-related) workarounds, to no avail:

• sudo spctl --master-disable
  
• sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Rapid\ Evolution\ 3.app
  
• chmod a+x /Applications/Rapid\ Evolution\ 3.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub (based on this thread here)

Anyone have any ideas on this?

I can't recall the specific problem (are you able to get any more detailed error message from any logs?).  It might be related to the choice of QTJambi for UI, which I think is now obsolete :-(

For RE3, are you able to get the linux version to install, as a workaround?

For RE2, I'd have expected it to work (I thought it used Java swing for UI)

Last resort (but should work), is to download eclipse, go download the source from github, and start hacking/fixing :-)  That would require some time, but ultimately would let you start tailoring the app to do whatever you want at least

I have to apologise here, I've just realised that I've been stating the wrong issue.

I can install RE2/3 without issues, but I cannot get any application to open on my Macs with 10.10 and above ("You can’t open the application “Rapid Evolution 3.app” because it is not supported on this type of Mac" is the error message given).

Could it be from the apps running in 32-bit?
