Hi Patrik! How are you? Could you help me with a question? I came across Minarca this weekend and I'm getting to know it, but I didn't see anything regarding compatibility with Windows Server. Can I conclude that it doesn't support it or that it's not intended for clients using it?

Hello Charles,

Thank you for reaching out to this mailing list regarding Minarca Data Backup.

Minarca consists of two components:

  1. The client – Installed on the computers that need to be backed up.
  2. The server – Manages user access, stores data, and sends notifications via a web interface.

Currently, the Minarca server is compatible exclusively with Debian-based Linux systems, and adding support for Windows Server is not on our roadmap.

However, since version 6, the client can perform backups to local storage (such as external disks) as well as to network storage. This means you can use the Minarca client to back up your data to a Windows Network Share. While this setup doesn’t offer the centralized management and data overview provided by the Minarca server, it could still meet your requirements.

Let me know if you have further questions!

Hello Charles,

Thanks for the clarification.

The Minarca Window clients should be compatible with Windows Server.

Hello again, Patrik! First of all, I apologize for not expressing myself clearly regarding my question about Windows Server, and I appreciate your attention.

When I mentioned Windows Server, my concern was about the availability of a compatible client, similar to the ones available for Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit). In my scenario, I plan to use the Minarca server on a Debian-based Linux system to store the backups. However, the data to be backed up is located on Windows Server file servers (versions 2019 and 2022).

I would like to know if I can use the client designed for Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) on these Windows Server machines to perform the backups without issues, thereby maintaining centralized management and an overall view of the data provided by the system.
