Dear RDFLib developers,

As promised, we will be running a teleconference next week to determine priorities for the 6.0.0 release.

I have collated a bunch of “targets” that are things bumped from 5.0.0, long overdue PRs, things we’re previously promised people and things I just think are good ideas in an Agenda for the meeting:

If you plan on attending the meeting, or even if you can’t, please indicate proposed targets by creating Issues (or whole PRs!) and them listing them in the Agenda. We really do need as many proposals as we wish to raise listed BEFORE the meeting or else we will run out of time on the day.

I’ve created a Doodle Poll with a range of times lots for next Tuesday (28th) for the meeting. If we don’t get a reasonable number of at least potential attendees and most of the maintainers in one slot, I’ll cancel the meeting and move it out a few days (either Thursday, 30th or perhaps Tuesday, 4th May). There is no chance everyone who might want to be there will be able to be but we have to start somewhere!

Here is the poll:

Please pass it on to anyone you know who might be interested (but they really should be on rdflib-dev!). The poll will be Google Hangouts-based unless you all email me with another preference.

Cheers,

Nick

I'm gonna sit this one out - if I had lots of time the two things I would have liked to work on would have been:

And splitting RDFLib into a stable core, with many satellite plugins: https://github.com/RDFLib/rdflib/issues/391

I'll leave it to those taking part deciding whether to put them on the agenda or not!

Good luck and thanks so much to everyone who have picked up the rdflib torch and carry it forward!

- Gunnar

Thanks Gunnar,

I have added these to the Agenda as “Previous maintainers favourites” as it’s this sort of greybeard (!) direction suggestion we want people to hear about.

Cheers,

Nick

Montréal, Canada Tue, 28 Apr 2020 at 7:00 am EDT
UTC, Time Zone Tue, 28 Apr 2020 at 11:00

For anyone else on this mailing list wishing to attend, please just email me!

Thanks,

Nick

Hi all,

Minutes from the 6.0.0 planning meeting that was just held are recorded in the same Wiki page as the agenda: https://github.com/RDFLib/rdflib/wiki/2020-04-28-6.0.0-Planning-Meeting. Hopefully they are explained well enough there!

Main outcomes:

- expected release date of late July for 6.0.0 (not late June)
- Python 2 & 3.4 removals first order of business.
    - No/few PRs to be merged until then
- no new major issues were raised
    - expected work is as per the Agenda was
- largest work item: RDF*/SPARQL*. This may or may not make a late July release
- spinning out stores and parsers/serialisers into satellite repos around a core not decided no
    - more maintainers meetings to determine this

Regards,

Nick
