instructions to connect rdesktop to xrdp?

I need instructions to connect rdesktop to xrdp.  I start X/XFCE, rc.xrdp, then rdesktop from my PC to server on the local area network (LAN,) whiich shows a login box, but nothing works.  Many of module options aren't even for the port xrdp is usng, but many of the ones that do, just don't do anything.  Others say they successfully logged in, then say they had a problem, so say retract what they said, that it meant it really didn't login after all.
