direct query to GeneMANIA or String

Paul and Quaid

There is interest in directly accessing GeneMANIA (or String) directly from R (or RCytoscape).  I recall a conversation with Quaid Morris - he said this would be possible once their server is upgraded, which it may be by now.  Is it possible to investigate whether this is achievable?  

The motivation is to retrieve network files from multiple groups of gene names in an iterative fashion.
