1) Frederick Douglass, a former slave & a leader in the fight against slavery,
was invited to speak at a 4th of July celebration in 1852. He took the occasion
to blast the US & its patriotic holiday for hypocrisy, cruelty, injustice, &
more. Here is some of what he said (this excerpt is from the latest issue of
"Revolution" newspaper, posted at http://rwor.org/a/007/what-to-slave-july-4th.htm):
"What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July?
"I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the
gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim.
To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your
national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and
heartless; your denunciations of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of
liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and
thanksgivings, with all your religious parade, and solemnity, are, to him, mere
bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy -- a thin veil to cover up
crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages.
"There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices, more shocking and
bloody, than are the people of these United States, at this very hour.
"Go where you may, search where you will, roam through all the monarchies and
despotisms of the old world, travel through South America, search out every
abuse, and when you have found the last, lay your facts by the side of the
everyday practices of this nation, and you will say with me, that, for revolting
barbarity and shameless hypocrisy, America reigns without a rival."

2) Today the RCYB & other supporters of the Revolutionary Communist Party will be
going out amongst the people to get out our message & to hear what they have to
say. We will be getting out the "Revolution" newspaper, & the flyers of the new
organisation "THE WORLD CAN'T WAIT! DRIVE OUT THE BUSH REGIME!"
(http://worldcantwait.org). If you agree with the paper &/or the flyer, you
should come help us spread the word & hook up with people. We will be going to
various parks in the daytime, & at night to Gas Works Park, to get this important
materials out to the people who are picnicking & watching the fireworks (many of
whom are doing only that, & are not patriotic very much actually -- I say this
just to point out that we are not "protesting" or "going into enemy territory").
Here is meeting times & places:
10:30am - Vivace's at Broadway & Denny on Capitol Hill (quick meet-up & planning
before going to various parks)
7:30pm - Gas Works Park, near the public telephones; it's on the north shore of
Lake Union, just south of N 34th between Densmore & Meridian
(Because of these plans, the usual Monday night "Revolution" newspaper discussion
circle in U-district is cancelled this week.)
3) Check out the WORLDCANTWAIT.ORG website, countrywide centre of the new
movement to actually drive the Bush regime from power. Updates include:
* Sign your endorsement (or your organisation's, or your band's, or your union's,
or your uni department's, etc etc) quickly online, if you agree with what is
