Laal salaam / Red greetings!

what: RCYB Movie Night - "SAVED!", followed by discussion
when: Friday, Dec 30, 6pm
where: Revolution Books, 1833 Nagle Pl (near corner of Broadway & Denny on Capitol Hill, ph#206-325-7415)

Every other Friday at Revolution Books, "Movie Nights with the RCYB", there will be a movie showing followed by discussion on the themes brought up the movie.

To start with we'll have a series of movies dealing with fascism & theocracy, because that is the direction this country is being pushed to by its leaders. (If you don't believe us, you need to read Revolution newspaper at http://revcom.us , as well as the http://WorldCantWait.org website & the books "With God on Their Side" by Esther Kaplan & "Contempt: How the Right Is Wronging American Justice" by Catherine Crier...)

Last time we showed "The Handmaid's Tale" & saw the all-too-possible future under Christian Fascist theocracy -- this time we see the all-too-real attempts of the fundamentalists to brainwash kids with intolerant, antiscientific nonsense.

This installment will be "SAVED!" starring Mandy Moore & Macaulay Culkin. (yes you read that right...) This is a present day comedy, taking place at a fundamentalist Christian high school in the US. The film pokes fun at fundamentalist lunacy, while dealing seriously with issues of homosexuality, pregnancy, & morality. However, neither is it coming from a strictly atheist standpoint. So there should be plenty of stuff to get into for the discussion.

Future films in the series may include "EQUILIBRIUM", "DAYBREAK", & "I, ROBOT". (Exact schedule TBA.)

Please pass this message on to others; suggestions are welcome; hope to see you there!
