Laal salaam / Red greetings!

The Seattle Committee to Promote and Popularize Bob
Avakian has been making and carrying out some exciting plans to
introduce thousands of people to Bob Avakian and what he has been
bringing forward. This is part of a national effort, and we are inviting
you to be a part of it. We aim to make a huge stride in this before the
end of May!

Those of you who have read Bob Avakian's memoir From Ike to
Mao...and Beyond! will know and feel what this unique and "up-close
and personal" journey would mean to tens of thousands in this
country today. People who are losing sleep over what it means to be a
person of principle in these dark times. People who are trying to
figure out how one can make sense of today's world and how it
"got this way". People who are wrestling with the moral and
ethical dilemma and question of what does it mean, what does it take, to
be a "good person." Or, you may have been engaging in
Avakian's re-envisioned view of what communist society would be like
and how to get there. All in a way that would make it worthwhile
getting there to a place where we would all actually want to live.

We talk about "these dark times," when a growing movement of
broad and diverse people confronts a fascist steamroller bearing down on
US society and waging war on the world. A time when two futures are
possible: the fascist future embodied in George Bush and his whole
program, or the exhilarating and liberating future of Bob Avakian.
Events are not standing still, and it matters greatly what we do right
now. What we seize out of these times depends to a great degree on how
much the people know about and understand that a leader like Bob Avakian
is right here and now leading the way forward and is someone in whom
they can put their trust. Bob Avakian's vision and work needs to be
recognized and available, discussed and debated, "circulating in
peoples minds" in a very broad way.

Over the next three weeks we will be going out to wide sections of
people throughout society -students and professors, bookstores and
libraries, artists, musicians and the media, as well as proletarian
people in the neighborhoods and projects.

Friends, none of this can be done without money! Please contribute
generously and help raise the funds to make this happen.

College Campuses and High Schools

We have until the end of May to reach out to some of the campuses before
the spring sessions end. We have been talking to teachers and professors
about adding From Ike to Mao as a course book (or supplemental reading)
for classes in English, history or social studies. Professors teaching
Philosophy and Ethics courses have also shown an interest in some of
Avakian's other works, such as Marxism and the Call of the Future,
Observations on Art and Culture, Science and Philosophy, and Preaching
from a Pulpit of Bones. Perhaps you know people in the education field
who would be interested in using Avakian's books.

Teams will also be going out to the University of Washington to promote and sell the Memoir and
encourage students to put it high on their list of summer reading. If
you aren't available in the daytime, we will also be going to
schools that have night classes.

Reviews

Reviews of From Ike to Mao are an extremely important way to promote the
book, and it is exciting and inspiring to read how this book has
affected people in different ways, bringing in a variety of perspectives
and life experiences. You can read many reviews at www.insight-press.com

More local reviews are needed. Do you know writers or people in the
media who could write or publish a review, including on the internet? Or
would you like to write a review and work with others to get it
published? If you can't write a full review, please send your
comments in the form of a short "blurb" that can be used to
promote the book.

Broad Outreach

We want to see the Memoir available throughout the city and suburbs, in
libraries and bookstores, coffeehouses and cafes. Are there places like
this in your neighborhood that would carry the book or host book
discussions? Invite your friends to Memoir discussions at Revolution Books,
6:30 pm every other Saturday , at 1833 Nagle Place (206 325-7415). Experience
shows that when people start reading this book, they really want to talk
about this "humanizing portrait of someone who is often seen only as
a hard-line revolutionary." (Howard Zinn)

Outreach in Proletarian Neighborhoods

At the end of May we will be spending the weekend going to residential areas, churches, shops and businesses, meeting and talking with people and introducing them to the Revolution DVD and other
talks by Bob Avakian.

If you would like to take part in any (or all!) of the efforts described
above, please stop by Revolution Books or contact: Terri of the Seattle Avakian Promotion Committee

At (206) 909-0481.
