I have a few projects/ideas rumbling around in my brain and thought I'd
incorporate them into one email.
First - the next bucktorn eradication will take place Monday, August 6th at
5PM and on Tuesday, August 7th at 9 AM. Please remember to wear long pants
and shirts, plus gloves and shoes - there is a bit of poison ivy mixed in
with the buckthorn. We will work about an hour and half to two hours each
of these days. (Jim, will the truck be available on Tuesday morning?). If
you can make this, please send a quick email. Thanks.
Next, I would invite any of you that might come across a monarch caterpillar
in the next month, to bring it into the depot for the great display that
Penny has been working on. There is no such thing as too many caterpillars.
Any questions about this - just contact me, or Penny.
The "friends" group, along with the DNR ,is looking to revamp the trail
map/brochure. If any of you have any expertise in this area, or any
suggestions please let me know in the next few weeks.
Joe Hagaman is working on getting a friend's website up and running. One
thing that I would like to put on the site is a weekly update on what to
look for on the trail. I picture having a few photos of flowers/berries/etc
with just a sentence or two describing what they are. If anyone is an avid
photographer and would like to start a collection of photos that we could
use on the site, once again, please let me know. We would need to figure
out a way to download them to some central spot.
Finally, I would like to spearhead a letter writing campaign, extolling the
wonders of the trail and our support of it. I am thinking of letters going
to city, county and state politicians, plus some folks in the DNR. I am in
the process of collecting names and addresses. A few spontaneous letters
can go a long way in building goodwill and support. If you would be
interested in writing a letter, just let me know. If you have a particular
person you would like to write to, for instance your assembly person or
senator, please note that in your email.
Phew, that's a lot of stuff. I don't expect that you participate in all of
these - just one would be wonderful. I thought that a few choices might
give more opportunities.
I look forward to hearing from you
Dennis
