to Responsible Citizens for Tiffin (RCT)

The Tiffin University has done a lot of good for Tiffin City. TU has
grown to be one of the largest employers in Seneca County, Ohio. When
other Ohio Colleges have suffered less than one percent growth, TU
proudly and rightfully boasts that it has increased it’s enrollments
by more than 50% in 5 years.

This has brought a lot of students into Tiffin with money to spend.
There is so much money from student spending, it now multiplies itself
3-4 times throughout Tiffin City, as some of our Citizens are buoyed
by the annual waves of prosperity. The University is so financially
successful, it has spawned its own real-estate development ventures
such as TU2 and other real estate holdings separate from their core
non-profit educational business. Tiffin University boasts of the 300
acres they own, the beautiful campus they have developed and the many,
many contributions it made to Tiffin City.

Tiffin University is indeed so successful it appears that it can’t
possibly manage the enormous wave of student cash. So, Tiffin
University Officials have teamed with local bankers, and other civic
leaders to spawn their own private real-estate rental business with
the encouragement and support from non-profit University Officials.
Terra Magnus Company, run by the affable TU Director of Development,
Mike Grandillo, is one such private enterprise. There are others.

So, with all their good financial success and civic standing in
Tiffin, what is it that now has them abusing their neighbors and using
the Tiffin City Council to do it for them? Elderly or not, why do TU
Officials want to close Jackson street without their neighbor-
Citizen’s permission? Why does their Miami Street Project Plan still
include the closing of Wall Street at the Railroad crossing? Why is
Tiffin University President, Paul Marion, threatening an eminent
domain action against the Monaco’s who have lived next door to TU’s
main building since 1949…before TU ever came to the neighborhood?

Tiffin University has done a lot of good for Tiffin. Their Miami
Street Improvement Project is NOT one of them. They simply do not
need more financial subsidies from taxpayers...to beautify the
campus. If you vot 'NO" Now, with the referendum on the
November 4th ballot, each Tiffin Citizen can have an immediate and
direct impact on whether our taxes go up.

On November 4th, 2008, please vote ‘NO’ on the Miami Street
Improvement Project Referendum. Please support your fellow Citizens
who don’t have the resources to oppose this irresponsible action
without your vote. Please help us all to put a stop to higher
taxes.
