DS Taskforce meeting 1/28/15 Summary

The focus of this meeting was to look at Regional Centers are prioritize their issues for future meetings.  At the forefront of this discussion was the Core Staffing formulation and service coordinator caseloads.  The CS formula is used to calculate how much money each regional center is allocated.  For instance it determines how many service coordinators the RC should have and then allocates a set rate for them.  The problem is that the formula has not been updated in years, resulting in RC's being chronically understaffed because they don't receive the correct allocation.   A lot of time was spent educating the taskforce on the various parts of the regional center process and funding.   Some issues were brought up for future discussion like the inclusion of more technology when interfacing between the RC and the vendor.  One thing that did come out of the meeting was the strong commitment within the group that both sides need to be fixed.  We cannot fix the regional center part of the system without addressing community issues too.

With the initial orientation to the community rates in December, the first taskforce meeting to begin to discuss and address rates and rate sustainability is scheduled for 2/24.  That should be a fun and exciting meeting.
