Call to action: Remembering Marin Ros Tumadottir

​Hi RCNUWC friends,

Last Monday, an RCNUWC alumni, ’99-’01, from Iceland, Marín Rós Tumadóttir, tragically passed away after a long struggle with mental health issues.

On Friday, April 8th, friends and family of Marín will hold a public event in Reykjavik to celebrate her life. For those of us who aren't able to attend due to distance or finances, we thought it would be appropriate to organize something fun, the sort of global action Marín might have organized herself.

The goals would be to:

1. Create a lasting legacy from around the world for her two young sons (ages 8 and 10), to be shared with them when they are a little older
2. To raise awareness within the UWC community and beyond, of the need to look after each other, talk about our mental health, and prevent similar tragedies

So, what do we want you to do?

1. Using bright red lipstick (Marín's trademark color), draw a heart on your cheek (or ask a friend to if you think it'll get messy)
2. Take a photo of your cheek
3. Share the photo on FB, Twitter, or Instagram, and tag it with ‪#‎marinros‬, #{your country}, and #{your firstname}

We'll use these hashtags to compile the photos for the boys.

If only 10 of us share photos, that in itself will be a huge success and a great way for us to remember Marín.

Thanks so much for coming up with this initiative. I think it is marvelous, I will sure do it. I guess it would be ideal if we share it on April 8th. Is that correct?

Hi Antulio,

Yes, that is correct - April 8th is the day to share. Although, as I think about it, if you post images before then, that would be fine as well because I'll still be able to find the hashtag and pull the images then. April 8th happens to be the day friends and family are gathering in Reykjavik to remember her publicly.

Also, I wanted to share that if anyone feels like this isn't how they would like to remember Marin, and they'd prefer to do something else for their pic, that is also totally fine! Just use the hashtags if you want to be included in the set of images I'll be sending to Anna, Marin's sister.
