Hey all, I am sure many of you are riding the train up from Boston
(maybe?). If you are throw your name down here, we can get together
and have a bit of a pre-hack fest while enjoying the peaceful ride to
Portland. In addition, if you need transport from Portland to Bryant
Pond, you can definitely come along for the ride. However, there is a
little caveat: I am staying longer in Maine so you would have to find
alternative transportation back to Portland/wherever on Monday.

Extremely excited to meet everyone.

I had not yet considered how to get up there, to tell the truth.
Having no car, I'm very open to either getting a ride with someone who
does (happy to spring for fuel costs), or investigating the train
options (of which I currently know nothing).
Going to be away for the next 10 days, with sporadic email access, but
I'll keep an eye on this and similar threads, as I'm sure they will
develop.

Looking forward to this (one more dive into Rails, or whatever I end
up hacking on ;-)

I'm looking for a way to get there as well (need to bum some sort of
ride), but I'm coming from Salem NH or Andover MA. The train sounds
do-able for me (I could pick it up in Exeter NH), but I would need
another way back from Bryant Pond to Portland.

What train (departure time?) would you be taking from Boston - looks
like there are a couple times in the evening where I can pick it up in
Exeter.

I'm also happy to spring for the cost of gas if anyone can give me a
ride - I can pay in cash or beer, but sorry no bitcoins.

Thanks,
Peter

I see train tracks going almost directly in front of the house we'll
be in but I don't see a train station in the area. Does anybody know
if there is a station close to the house? It would be pretty awesome
to get a whole bunch of people on the train and have a hackfest on the
way up. :)

This makes me wonder if it's a freight line, and we could all just do
some "freighthopping" to get there :-)
Okay, maybe I just like the image of the inside of a big freightcar
lighting up with the glowing laptop screens of Rails Hobos (yes,
thematically appropriate). Not really steampunk, but an interesting
cross-genre vision.

It looks like somebody is already squatting on RailsHobos.com

http://railshobos.com/

But RubyHobos.com is still available. I smell money.

Ha! Nice.

I'm also interested in ridesharing/trainsharing on the way up & back.

I'm coming from Savannah, GA and need a ride. Halp?

JK? It looks like Portland is the closet airport, so if anyone is driving from out of there, please let me know. Werewolves need not bother.

I have a feeling the train isn't going to cut it, but if someone can
prove me wrong, please do...

Otherwise, I can't make it to any meetings so I figure I'll post the
offer here. I have a Honda Civic and plan to drive. I think I already
have one passenger, but I am not sure how to dole out the remaining
two seats.

Oops, been a second since I have looked back. I am getting into
Portland on the 1:30 train (leaves Boston at 11). I will have room for
3 people to ride to Bryant Pond with me. There used to be a train that
you could take all the way into Bethel which would have been amazing
but...alas that was cut off. Love the railshobo.com idea btw!

I am leaving from Cambridge (Kendal Sq.) around 3PM and have 1 to 2
open spots (small trunk is the issue really) if anyone is interested.

I'm leaving from central Rhode Island around 1pm Friday, and have 1
spot open. Heading back from camp at 9am Monday.

I plan on taking 95 or 93 through Boston, but can swing out 495 if
you're over that way. Let me know if you need a ride.

I'm planning to take 95 (from the junction with the Mass Pike) sometime Friday afternoon.  I could potentially go into Boston and take 93.  I am either coming back late Sunday, or leave early Monday at 5:30AM heading to Kingston NH.

I'm somewhat local (about half way between Portland and Bryant Pond).
I can drive to the train station in my sleep, as my girlfriend is a
grad student at Simmons in Boston. If anyone is desperately in need of
a ride and the other cars are fully booked, I could pick people up at
the train station/airport and bring them to the event. My car has 3
available seats and a reasonable amount of trunk space.
