to RCN Braemar Homeowners
I am upgrading from the standard Tivo to the Whole Home Bundle. As the order was finally complete (I save $10 a month, now) we made arrangements for a tech to come out and set everything up. Obviously, being the man I am and the self-appointed technological guru, I rejected the notion of sending a tech to come out and install. In no way did I want to be charged the $49.99 for a job that I could do on my own. RCN indicated that they were REQUIRED to install the new equipment and MUST charge me the 50 bills. I equated it to paying a ransom. I still do. I complained via twitter because they're actually quite responsive through that medium. "As a courtesy" RCN reduced the installation fee to $25. Still not what needs to happen.
I told them that I wish to hire someone else at a much cheaper rate. They've gone silent.
