Good afternoon, all.

I've been on the 75/10 tier of Internet service with RCN for a while now (with actual speeds comparable to that), but I noticed slower upstream speeds today.  From the speed test page at http://md.speedtest.rcn.net, I noticed my upstream limit had changed from 11000000 (10 Mbps) to 6300000 (6 Mbps), with a corresponding drop in upstream speed.  Has anyone else on the 75/10 tier seen this?

Also, anyone have updated info on if/when 110/15 will be available to Braemar, and if so, for how much?

Thanks in advance!
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
I heard from Joe yesterday and he shared a FB post (that I initially missed) with the following info:

The Post:

For those homeowners with RCN service, your sub associations have each approved an internet speed increase to the base service. This will increase the base service to 10Mbps download and 2Mbps upload. The Highland Village download speed change has already been completed and the remaining sub associations will see the download speed increase starting January 6.

RCN has notified management that the upload speed increase will occur in mid-January. Before the change can take effect, RCN must remove all DOCSIS 1.0 modems from their network. They are very close to finalizing this task and anticipate by mid-January they will be able to implement the upload speed change.

The speed increases are shown below. Anyone currently paying for upgrades will be automatically moved forward to the next level of upgraded speed for the monthly rate listed below. The monthly rate may be equal to or less than the current monthly rate. Also note that those who will be moved to 50Mbps from 25M may require a 3.0 Modem. If you are in this group, RCN will contact you after Jan 6th to schedule this upgrade.
5Mbps (Base) will go to 10Mbps (Base)

10Mbps will go to 25Mbps

15Mbps service will go to 25Mbp (@ $10.00/month)

25Mbps service will go to 50Mbps and will require a 3.0 Modem (@ $20.00/month)

50Mbps service will go to 75Mbps and will require a 3.0 Modem, however these homes will already have received the modem. (@ $30.00/month)

If anyone has problems they should contact RCN at1-866-255-8181 orBraemar.Sup...@rcn.net<mailto:Braemar.Support@rcn.net>

Incidentally, not knowing of the pending change, I had called and upgraded to 50Mbps on Jan 1 and received my new modem on Jan4. I tested my speed last night and this morning. Last night I was getting about 45. This morning at 7am I got 63. I intend to give a call to RCN over the weekend to find out if I had been upgraded to 75 on Jan 6th or not.  But it sounds like you should be getting 75.

Also, at the time of my call on Jan 1, 110Mbps was avilaible, but the price quoted was $119. The rep mentioned that the price she was seeing had not yet been updated with Braemar discounting. She said to keep checking back for the rate to be established for us.

Hello, Tina.

Thanks for the information.  As a matter of fact, I did see something like that on the Braemar HOA Facebook page, and what they are doing is very encouraging.  I also noticed that my 75/10 service just dropped from $50/month to the $30/month price shown below.  I just talked to a very nice lady at RCN who apparently monitors these boards (Hi, Emilie!) and she's going to have one of their techs look into my modem situation.

Hi Jeff,

RCN advised me that when 110M/15M is released, it will replace the 75M service and be $30/mo.  However, there is no ETA as of yet.  They will let us know when it is released and we will post this on the social media outlets.

Warm Regards,

Who is our POC that has cognizance of the base 10/2mbps speeds??  I was on the phone for a while this morning with RCN and they only have 10M/800kbps in their records.

Thanks,
Troy

I had the same conversation with a rep. I told them that I was getting 2mb upload, and had the 15/2 since we were all moved to RCN. She said that was impossible, and they were only setup for 800kbps. I get 2 in my speed tests. I was asking if the upload speed was increasing also. Major disconnect at RCN on what is in the reps literature.

Hi Troy,

The 2M upload is not yet active.  RCN advised us it would be mid-January, and it is now mid-January.  We have been pushing hard for them to give us an ETA.  As soon as we hear about the 2M upload speed going “live” we will post on the social media outlets.  I hope that helps.

Stay warm and safe out there today!!

Hi Darren,

RCN said they have been calling people who need the upgraded modem.  If you have not received a call yet, please contact their Customer Care number at, at 1-866-255-8181 or Braemar...@rcn.net.

Thanks Leah I had to reschedule mine for this Monday, and I had not received a phone call from RCN, or at least if I had no messages were left.  It may be a good idea to try and get the word out to the neighborhood.

Thanks,
Darren

Hi Darren,

RCN did send letters to customers regarding the 1.0 modem exchange. Customers requiring a 3.0 modem were contacted via phone. Of the original 334 people requiring a modem exchange, there are ~20 who as of Friday either have not responded to the calls or are scheduled for a date within the next 10 days. I hope that helps!

Have a good day!

Good afternoon, Troy.

We were notified by RCN that the network was upgraded to 2G as a part of a pre-scheduled maintenance early last week.
