I love RC Laser sailing. I've recently bought a new boat so I am
absolutely committed to the class.

But, I have been starting to think of two sails not one. Those who are
familiar with the full size RC Laser will remember that it was
followed by the Laser 2. This operated on the same strict one design
principles but had two sails.
I don't want a boat that I need to build or spent too long fiddling
with (e.g. IoM) but a well bult, robust, two sailed boat that operated
on the same principles as the Laser and was just as much fun would be
very nice.

For those that are making the trip to Eastbourne something to talk
about over dinner perhaps? What does Nigel think?

What does anyone else think?

There is a 'one design' 1M.
Build it yourself ie wood, from free plans available from the MYA
It is an almost competitive boat called Triple Crown
There are also several other boats but they all suffer from the same
problems:
either not sufficiently sorted or ex 1M owners who still do stupid
things because they can ( ie carbon fibre inserts in the Micro Magic)
You might like to consider the 'Soling' but in truth you will be
dissappointed with the performance (not sufficiently sorted)
On mainland Europe there is the 65 (I think) which is a small 1M (not
a strict one design)
If you really want a boat that is something very special indeed, get
an A Boat. Not one design but Peter Wiles will do a very good Sweet 9
or 10 for about £1500.00 and that is a real mans boat.

Andy,

Wood?
To some of us plastic fiends "wood" is a four letter word! And
£1,500? - I'll buy a lottery ticket!

No, despite your interesting suggestions, I am looking for something
something that just isn't there (yet).
I am looking for a reasonably sized, economical two sailed plastic
boat that is strictly one design and can go from the box to water in
seven minutes.
I don't want to design it or build it. I would like it to have the
same ethos as the RC Laser and preferably I want it to have the same
designers!
No asking for much am I?
One can dream!

Colin.

Buy an old laser put 2 of the brass eyelets in the deck one as jib
pivot one as a sheet point (both on centre line) one in the mast about
3/4 of the way up a bit of aluminium for a jib boon a bit of old sail
cloth and string and a connection line to the winch line and away you
go.
