Dear Rtn. Dipesh Mehta,
President, RID 3050
Rotary greetings to you...
PRIP Raja Saboo is actively organising a Plastic Surgery Mission to Rwanda and he needs help from OUR district.
In the wake of the Nigeria polio corrective surgery mission, Rotarians in India are now actively striving for the international plastic surgery mission to Rwanda. This project was conceived last year when Rotarians from India had gone there for a multi-discipline mission and health minister of Rwanda appealed to Rotary to take up plastic surgery mission to provide some dignity and relief to the mutilated bodies of the victims of genocide which Rwanda had in mid 90s. These people have been unfortunate to be alive with such facial or body injuries that they cannot come out in the open and have to be confined within their own homes.
Rotary India has taken up this challenge and a team of plastic surgeons with anaesthesiologists and maxillofacial surgeons will be working in Kigali, Rwanda from 5 May to 15 May, 2013. Whereas we will have the Rotarian Plastic surgeons and anaesthesiologists from different parts of the world, majority of them will be from India since it is the project that we have initiated.
PRIP Raja Saboo has appealed to me to recommend such expert volunteers like a plastic surgeon, an anaesthesiologist to come from our district. If your club has such a member, or any experienced maxillofacial surgeon, please let me know. We will need experienced and senior people in each of these areas. If you have any one of them, please consult him or her and advise me of the same with his/her consent.
I will recommend the name to PRIP Raja Saboo. We will then have the final list drawn up in consultation with Dr. P.S.Chari who is a very senior plastic surgeon himself and has been head of Plastic Surgery Department of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science and Education Research (PGI), Chandigarh.
Our district will like to be a participant in this major international activity. PRIP Raja Saboo himself will be part of the medical mission as a volunteer. PDG Ranjit Bhatia is coordinating the whole project.
I will be grateful for your getting active in respect of my appeal and after write to me as soon as possible. If you are suggesting and recommending any name then please do give full background of qualification and experience. That will be helpful. I can only tell you that these doctors will be the hands and instruments of good Lord to bring dignity to the humanity beyond borders who have been deprived of it. The Rotarian doctor from your club can be part of this divine and noble act.
I await your feedback as quickly as possible.
