WD37C65 Special Mode

Has anyone ever written a WD37C65 drive driver or test program for the special mode? I cannot generate the drive select signals !DS1-!DS4. I thought the controller would enable the corresponding outputs in special mode. Even if I successfully send a SEEK command, there is no drive select signal. I am getting desperate slowly. I've managed to get an FDC9266 controller working for 4 drives, but my ambition is to get the same work done for the WD controller. Does anyone have any ideas?
