A serial to USB converter with a tiny display to show the data
being transferred,
https://www.crowdsupply.com/excamera/termdriver-2.  From the website:

Stop switching between windows. Stop wondering if your connection is working. Start seeing your serial communication.

Visual Debugging: See Your Serial Connection in Action

The built-in IPS display transforms how you work with serial devices. Instead of blind troubleshooting, you get instant visual feedback on everything happening with your connection.

Watch serial data stream by in real-time with full ANSI terminal emulation—colors, cursor positioning, and formatting are faithfully reproduced on the compact screen. Monitor the control signals with live status indicators. If something goes wrong, you’ll see it immediately.

The display isn’t just for monitoring—it’s an active debugging tool. Identify connection issues before they derail your development session. It’s like having a logic analyzer and terminal emulator built into your USB-serial adapter.

Hi Spencer,

Yes - it is worth asking .

The format of the text - Fact sentences, followed up by summary sentences, lends itself to point towards AI slop.

But the clincher, is the use of em-dashes.  These don't exist on a keyboard, but are standard in AI responses because most AI models use poetry to train the language database.

So - Absoloutly - AI slop.

The sad reality, is that AI is being actively trained on its own excrement that is used within newsgroups such as this.

Kindest regards,

Doug Jackson

Sorry for asking the obvious, but is this reply a genuine human suggestion, or an AI generated response based on a few keywords?

Having done a lot of RS232 debugging, I think it is a cool and useful tool.  I have no idea if they use AI to write their web page.

I have known of and known James Bowman (Excamera Labs) for over 10 years. I doubt that he’s into writing AI slop. He makes every high quality stuff, that is always useful.

I have some of his Gameduino products.
But I wouldn’t put it past Crowdsupply to “automate” drumming up business without the explicit approval of their makers.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like this USB-Serial adapter is only useful for 3.3V serial ports. If that is the case, connecting it to an RC2014 / RCBus retrocomputer would probably result in $24 (+ shipping) down the drain :-(

hi, umm, some defense - while I am not interested in this, while working just now on "7xtgv" specific text-display (chip) for TUI according to my own specs, carefully designed/tweaked (in my HEAD, be sure) for my own use and also as terminal - btw, all my things are designed by ME, not by any "AI slop" or whatever, although yes, I AM discussing options and solving problems and LEARNING while talking to good (machine) colleague, non-agressive, non-arrogant non-scientology-nazi, often full of humor (started by me, to keep thigs human) ... and yes, the machine is TEACHING me also on its own flaws, which I can detect, always;

so I expect - both unhealthy addiction to AI LLM and also excessive fear of it will have soon its own code in ICD.

Paul, you can calculate yourself voltage divider from 5V to 3V3 for this output-only case - its 2 resistors only. And 3V3 can drive TTL 1 well too.
(I had this way connected serial-BT adapter to TTL)
