Hi!

Whenever I go to a Maker Faire or tech conference, Hackaday event or some other geeky meetup, I always have the pleasure of meeting up with some of you RC2014 owners, which is awesome :-)

Sadly, there doesn't seem to be enough events going on in enough parts of the country, so I've been thinking about arranging a selection of RC2014 meetups so I've got an excuse to get out and about and meet some of the RC2014 community that I've not met before, and to catch up a bit more with those that I have met before.

Looking at the map, there seems to be local concentrations of RC2014 customers around Sheffield, Bristol, Manchester, Cambridge, and, of course, London - although you lot really are spread out all over the country, so feel free to put a case together for your local area.

So, if I suggested an evening meetup in Sheffield on 14th August to kick things off, firstly, would any of you want to come along?  And, if so, can you suggest a suitable venue that's not too far from the train station, which serves good beer, and doesn't mind a bunch of geeks meeting up and plugging in strange looking electronics.

Then, if that goes well, a similar thing in Bristol on 11th September?

Cheers

Spencer

Sheffield you say! Should be able to pop along.

In terms of venues near train station there are (listed in vague order of suitability):

Old Queens Head (near the bus station): http://www.theoldqueenshead.co.uk/
Has a decent selection of beers, and there is an upstairs function room that they don't charge for. Is usually not too busy too.

Showroom cafe/bar (directly opposite station) https://www.showroomworkstation.org.uk/food-drink/

Howard (Also directly opposite station) https://www.howardsheffield.co.uk/
Standard boozer. Beers are OK.

There is the Sheffield Tap in the station http://www.sheffieldtap.com/ , which has a great beer selection but it can get very busy.

Cheers,
Ed

South East for me.

With the ABUG (Acorn BBC User Group) South we often meet up at the Cambridge Museum in the back/side room. The Museum usually also puts on an Acorn weekend at the same time, Do met other places as well, but I know RC2014 has made several appearances at the musuem already hackaday type events already.

Regards.

Tickets are going well for the RC2014 meetup in Sheffield on Tuesday.  Looks like there's going to be over 10 of us so far.

I know a few people that are intending to go, but haven't signed up for tickets yet.  If you could please sign up (it's FREE!) then it helps me and the venue plan ahead much better. Linky link --> https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rc2014-retro-z80-computer-meetup-sheffield-tickets-48877434723

If you want to pre-order any RC2014 kit to pick up at this event, please go to https://www.tindie.com/stores/Semachthemonkey/ and use discount code QUEENSHEADPICKUP at checkout before midday on Tuesday to receive 15% discount. (Note that Tindie will still charge you postage - but I'll buy you a drink to compensate)

Cheers

Just a comment slightly off topic, but looking at google map street view, you really do have some wonderful pubs in the UK!

and you have yabbies, Balmain bugs and fresh oysters, can be washed down by a lovely wine or Cascade. Your restaurants are a manifestation of heaven!

Just a quick follow-up email to say that the meetup in Sheffield was a big success. A big thank you to all of you that turned up. I think there was 10 in total -.mainly existing RC2014 owners, but a couple RC-Curious.  Lots of good lovely geeky talk all round.

Next month will be around the Bristol / Bath area. I've not chosen a venue yet, but I'll be more than happy for locals to suggest somewhere nice, friendly, easy to get to and with good beer. If it does food, or there's a food place nearby then that's a bonus.

Cheers

Spencer
