Tom's Z80 CF card problem

Hello All,

I build Tom's Z80 SBC and the board itself works. However, if I connect a CF card adapter the boards stops working.

Has anyone experienced this?

I am powering the board from the USB TTL adapter. The CF card adapter is the one that Steve discusses on his website Compact Flash Adapters | Small Computer Central.

I put the jumpers in the right spot and connected power as described there.

All three LED's on the adapter board light up brightly. But no serial connection to the PC.

When I remove power to the adapter there is still no serial comms with the PC. When I remove the adapter  comms with the PC is restored.

Am I looking at a bad adapter? Anyone seen the before?

Hello All,

I found the solution..... I am a bit embarrassed to confess that the adapter was reversed.

The picture on Steve's website showed the adapter next to Tom's Z80 SBC, however it was not connected.

I did not use a proper IDE socket/header but a double row 40 pin angled header so an error was easily made....

Now it works! 

I found that I could not install DOWNLOAD.COM from Grant's website. The HEX file from Steve's website did work and I could install other CP/M files.
