Put together a simple communication interface to scratch my own itch last week, and uploaded it to GitHub in case anyone else finds it useful:

It provides RS232 level conversion and 3.3V power, and lets me switch between three combinations of RS232 terminal, FTDI header, and ESP01 module (for Zimodem etc.) without unplugging anything.
