Hi all,

As I'm connected to my full monty RC2014 classic on an iMac with OS X I'm using Coolterm to connect. As such it runs fine, with the exception of send a file. Whatever setting I use it breaks up in all kinds of wrong data. What works, a bit, is do a send string option in CoolTerm but that is also limited to approx 200-300 characters or so. In other words, it's nearly impossible to upload a text/bas file onto RC2014 then over serial. Any suggestions or tips?

Hi Chris,

There is very littler serial buffering on the RC2014 Classic, but there are a couple of things that can make it a lot more successful.  Firstly, set your terminal to use hardware flow control, and secondly, you can add a 1ms delay after each character that is sent.  I think both of these options are available in Coolterm, although as I don't use a Mac, I can't confirm this.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

Spencer

I'm a mac user and have tried a range of software, also CoolTerm.
I would recommend a software called serial, it cost but it works well.
You can download a trial version.

With the mac ports-tree you can also install minicom, a terminal program used in unix. Works very well and you have several file transfer protocols build in.
It has no graphical interface, so you must use terminal to access it.
You need to install mac ports tree and command line tools to get the c compiler....

I would second using Serial on the Mac. It's well done. However, it does not support defined character transmission delays (only "wait for  echo"). So, I don't use the DOWNLOAD.COM method of transferring files to the RC2014, and instead I use XMODEM, which Serial handles just file.

Hi Karl,

I've tried many settings on Coolterm also the flow control (non software and the 3 different HW) included 1ms delay on transmit character but nothing works so far. At least not for sending a text file. Coolterm worked flawlessly with my CPUVille Z80 project in uploading raw or text files so I assume it's somewhere a setting issue? Will look into Serial too indeed.
