what a wonderful way for Futaba to shoot themselves in their
collective feet! Apart from anything else, doesn't it just mean the
risk of a single failed servo connection/lead affecting several servos
instead of just one?

Nice analogy with the IBM PCs Bruce, and as long as the clone RC
manufacturers are out there I think it will bring the same returns for
Futaba as it did for IBM - a loss of customers. They risk being left
with a small bunch of (rich) must-have's who will swear blind it's the
only way to go, while the rest of the world quietly carries on with
old obsolete technology that will continue to work just as well as it
ever did.

I completely agree. I see absolutely no need for this system in any
airplanes that I fly currently, or foresee flying. This works in the
industrial automation world, but not the residential world. I would
like to see them shoot themselves in the foot. What they are doing
with the costs of their systems is ridiculous and the more people that
see this as after-the-fact extortion, the better.

If that were to happen then the China would not have anything to copy!

The scary thing about S-Bus is how they claim that it improves safety.
How does removing MULTIPLE servo cables and replacing them with one
single cable improve safety? If you have two aileron servos in one
wing, having them connected via a single cable means a single point of
failure. What people forget when they draw parallels to military
aircraft is the simple fact that military craft typically have
redundant systems, i.e. several complete buses.

I share the scepticism. Also, did you see the price for the (small)
converter box for 4 servos? 50 euros! Talk about printing money...

I too thought of something similar a couple years ago when I had to
delve into automotive CAN-BUS systems. Although I think being able to
daisy-chain the servos might be a nice additional feature. Think about
having the receiver at the center of the model and it acting as the
hub in a star configuration. That and making it open source (like that
will ever happen).

I can see this as a good thing in a large scale model.
