I am guessing that the sort of people who will respond to this forum
will all come from the same camp.....

I was giving some advice to a friend recently who was just getting
into the hobby about radio systems, and said the nice thing is you can
now divorce the man machine interface decision from the tranmission
system. Get a nice computer radio that you like the look/feel/
programming etc, then pick your radio system based on the performace/
price you want. Especially as lots of second hand nice quality stuff
is now available.

Personnally I love the hack modules - you can add your preferred radio
system to an existing Tx, and even have multiple systems in the one
Tx. I love my JR 2610 with the Assan DIY module - I was dipping my
toe in the water, not sure about 2.4 GHz so kept both the FM and 2.4
Ghz. Never use the FM any more.

About to hack a DX7 with either Assan or FrSky - then I will be able
to choose between Spektrum and cheaper stuff. Will be interesting to
see if I wind up with many Spektrum Rx's, or just the one that came
with it.

More on topic, one other issue here is you are committing to a brand
and their longevity - what if the horse you back goes bust? You can't
get any more Rx's and your sunk. Or the company changes/upgrades and
no longer produces Rx's that are compatable with your system? In FM
days you had choices - now you don't. One advantage of getting a
bigger brand is they (hopefully) will support/supply their equipment
for longer.
