Cc: Section Directors
I know we’re in that weird little window of time when it remains hot and humid out and we’re still outside doing those summertime activities, but the school and family calendars are taking shape and schedule normalcy is around the corner. We’re squeezing out the last bits of summer vacation with the looming return to the regular commerce of our schedules. I’m re-sending a previous email to all of you with some additional commentary for planning this coming year because the changes are significant: Three convention opportunities instead of one. This will hopefully allow for more men to have access to the convention experience while deepening and focusing the level of training in each case. Feel free to forward this relevant segments of this listing to your sections or members. Here come the details:
· October 2010 Men’s Convention: The men’s convention that has traditionally taken place every fall has morphed a bit. It is no longer the “catch-all” training weekend for all roles within the men’s section as it has been in the past. It is no longer confined to a “formators convention” in the truest sense. It is a general men’s convention that all Catholic men and certainly all Regnum Christi men can attend. The weekend remains tied to the October Columbus Day weekend. This year, that’s October 8-11th in Thornwood, NY (back to NY). Conference will begin at 5 pm on Friday and conclude with lunch on Monday. There won’t be tracks for spiritual guides or section leaders this year because they have their own dedicated conventions now. The theme and details of convention aren’t yet solidified. I’m not helping with this convention in the way I have in the past, but we have a terrific convention team in place who are wrapping up the planning particulars right now. Details and logistical considerations will be forthcoming imminently.
· December 2010 Men’s Spiritual Guide Convention: We will convene the first annual men’s spiritual guide convention on the weekend of Dec 10-12th in Bethesda, MD (DC area). This convention in its maiden form will begin on Friday at 5 pm and conclude after lunch on Sunday. It will be priced similarly to previous weekend retreats since it fits more easily to the weekend schedule. The spiritual guide content will include portions of the following:
o Primers on Catholic anthropology and men’s psychology
o Types of prayer and understanding the differences
o Deepening our understanding of ascetical theology and how men embrace it (as well as our own approach)
o Various elements of the “classics” of spiritual theology woven throughout the weekend
o Suggestions and considerations for going much deeper personally with our own interior lives
o Dealings with obstacles, practical encumbrances, and distractions in the spiritual life of men
· February 2011 Men’s Section Leader Pull-Together (top men only): In this case, we are re-starting a practice that took place annually for years until about 2005. Every year, the top man from every section/city would come to a conference where we could discuss the issues confronting our cities and sections. For a couple years, the conference was moved around in the calendar and eventually annexed by the Planning Conventions from a few years ago. The time has come to revive this pull-together in an effort to better support each of you and draw from your collective wisdom, both personally and spiritually. This conference will also take place in Bethesda, MD on the weekend of February 18-20th, 2011. Our top directors will be there in that unique type of focused, intimate environment. During the weekend, we’ll discuss big-picture concepts related to section life and stability; team life essentials in light of the new handbook; spiritual depth within the section; and effective communications. Since I speak with many of you regularly, these are several of the core items that section leaders have to manage month-to-month which warrant attention. This is highly recommended for each section assistant.
Naturally if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ping me back or give me a call. Sorry for the repetition here. But I know the previous messages about these changes may have been missed or overlooked with all that’s been going on this spring and summer. God bless.

I’m forwarding a note that was sent to all section directors and LCAs a few months ago. It explains the changes to the men’s convention strategy. In several of my phone conversations and email exchanges in the last month, I’ve noticed that many of you are unaware of these changes. So I’m going to forward this information to you directly. Again, I hope this will only be a reminder because you’re already aware (see attachment for details and specifics). A “save the date” flyer and theme information will be coming out shortly for the October men’s convention. Stay tuned.
