Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Brothers in Christ,

I just wanted to send out a note with a few reminders of some customs Movement
members generally observe during Holy Week.
  • Participate in as many of the Holy Week liturgies as you can, so as to accompany the Lord through his Passion.
  • To the extent possible, try to enter into the "great silence" of the Sacred Triduum by refraining from using tv, radio & various other screens and gadgets from Holy Thursday in to Easter. (Obviously, adapt this to your actual situation).
  • It's our custom to read the accounts of the Passion as our Gospel Reading during the Triduum. The traditional order is: Wed: Matthew; Holy Thurs: Mark; Good Friday: John; Holy Saturday: Luke.
  • Not customary, but wonderful, is the Holy Father's summation last week of his two-year catechesis on the saints. I think you'll find much beauty, simplicity and encouragement in his simple explanation of how to be holy --and how we're all called to it.  I think you may find this very much a  synthesis of our own spirituality. It's about striving to know Christ, so as to think, feel and behave more like Him.
  • I also commend to you  his Palm Sunday homily from this past weekend.
Also, a brief announcement:
Saturday Evening, April 30th, we will celebrate the beatification of John Paul the Great with an anticipated (Sunday) Mass at 7:00 pm at OLB, followed by a brief dedication of some relics and hors d'oeuvres. No charge, but there will be a free will offering collected to defray the cost of food and wine. Anyone is welcome: husbands, dates, kids, friends...

Finally, a few prayer requests. ( I would encourage you to let me know if there are ever prayer requests that you have for the Men's Section).
  • Please pray for April and Tom Hoopes (formerly of the Washington Section, now living in KS), who is recovering from a D&C after a molar pregnancy.
  • Please pray for the Holy Father.  Last Saturday, the 16th,  was his 84th birthday, and this will be a grueling week for him, no matter how beautiful. He also asks that we pray especially for Christians in the Holy Land and throughout the Middle East during this time.
  • And, of course, let's pray for each other to be able to enter deeply into the Holy rites we've begun today and be renewed with the grace of the Easter season.
in Christ,
Elliott
