Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Men in Christ,

Please see below for some announcements and news sent out to the Women's Section.  There are quite a few items and prayer requests that apply to the men's Section as well.  Along these same lines, if you have prayer request you would like to go out to the entire Section, please send a note, and copy Mike Baker (Michae...@cgifederal.com).

That said, please note below the new time for the monthly Holy Hour in First Fridays.  You do not have to be RC to come, so please try to attend on March 4th, at 9 PM and bring a friend.  Perhaps if there are enough of us we can find a "greasy spoon" diner afterwards.  Or before.

The women recently hosted a prayer workshop, where the vast majority of attendees were not RC.  Let me know if you think there would be interest among men you know for a practical workshop for men on prayer, and how to apply it to our marriages, our work, and the rest of our lives.

Lastly, in an effort to reinvigorate communication within the Section, I would like to ask you to let me know what types of updates and information might be useful to you, and how often you would like to receive them.

Yours in Christ and the Movement,
Elliott

Upcoming Dates & A Papal Audience

  February 10, 2011
Head of Christ

Thy Kingdom Come!

Dear Sisters in Christ,

It was a shot in the arm to see so many people at First Friday Holy Hour and again at the monthly retreat!

In response to numerous inquiries, the book I was reading from during the practical talk was Fr. Timothy Gallagher, OMV's Discernment of Spirits. We'll ask the bookstore to re-stock it!

I also wanted to highlight, if you haven't seen it, the papal audience this week on St. Peter Canisius. There the pope highlights so many themes: Christocentrism, the necessity of mental prayer, friendship with Christ, charity in speech and evangelization, that it seems almost tailor-made for us.

Upcoming Dates
  • Help is still needed to set up, serve and clean up (these are different shifts) for the February 12 Marriage Enrichment Retreat (Saturday night!). Please contact Lisa Klewicki at thek...@verizon.net if you can pitch in to give married couples a nice boost!
  • March 4, 9-10 pm. The new, improved time for our all-sections & communities First Friday holy hour of reparation is 9-10 pm on First Fridays. Family & friends welcome. (We had about 25 people, including couples and families, our first time out: v. nice to see, thank you!)
  • Monthly retreat Saturday, March 5th. Normal schedule: 7:30 holy hour, 9:00 first meditation....
  • Upcoming national conventions (on-line flyers & registrations should be coming via your TLs within the next 48 hours. Nag them (sweetly) if you don't receive!): National Convention on Prayer, w/ Fr. John Bartunek in Oxford, MI: March 17-20; National Formators Convention in Rhode Island, April 6-10
  • Register for your renewals here.
Prayer Requests:
There are 25 couples starting marriage prep tonight! Since our audience is mostly people who are not very practicing of the faith, this is always a beautiful opportunity for conversion if hearts are open. Please keep them, as well as the couples on marriage enrichment and the girls at the Pure Fashion Spa Day this weekend, in your prayers.

Please continue to keep up your prayers for our section families bearing tough crosses!

Have a great weekend!

In Christ,
Rebecca

News
Two important announcements from the Legion of Christ. You can read more details at the links provided.

Prayer workshop feedback:
I want to thank everyone for promoting and praying for the success of the prayer workshop! Close to 30 people participated, 2/3 of them not in RC.

I'll share with you what I shared with the Team Leaders yesterday:
I am truly delighted because several women said that they'd never known what prayer was until it was modeled for them, and several others said the same thing about the rosary: that it had been mere repetition for them until it was modeled. That was exactly the reaction I was hoping for -and honestly, KNEW-- some people would have. When I've talked to parish groups in the past couple of years, I've become more and more aware that we can give beautiful talks, but people no longer understand the vocabulary: "recollection," "mental prayer," "meditation," etc. And "personal relationship with Christ" sounds beautiful, but no one knows how to begin to have it. So my profound prayer was that by giving only short talks, but then modeling prayer (praying out loud in front of the participants) and then having them reflect in silence - and then share experiences as a group-we could de-mystify these words and concepts and help people. I also knew that it would be uplifting to spend the weekend praying and reflecting with women who want to know God, and it would give people a taste of Christian community life. One woman said she'd been trying to pray for years and years and had never known what to say to God - and now she knows!  The evaluation forms were entirely positive -some raves and some very high scores w/ a smattering of suggestions for next time. But to me, the happiest thing is that for that handful of people with no idea how to pray, now they know! Thank you, Lord! There is nothing happier than seeing someone find You right before our eyes!

I also have to brag on your colleagues a bit. Probably the most moving and important moment of the weekend was after the talk on mental prayer/meditation when we got three women to pray out loud -to open the intimacy of their prayer life to others. That took real courage and humility, so I want to thank Cecilia Azcunaga, Margie Davin & Catherine Vendetti for doing that. Their act of humility changed hearts and lives this weekend! And I thank the convention team, too, for handling promotion, design, binder production, sacristan work & lots of pretty details - often at their own expense: Rebekah Daly, Catherine Vendetti, Melanie Baker & Cris Tallent (with kibitzing and input from others).

Prayer Requests
  • Please pray for Nina Morton, from Molly Tremblay's team. She's been diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Please pray for Jane Newstedt's mother-in-law, Louise, who is recovering from surgery to repair a perforated intestine. Her liver is struggling to cope with the infections from the perforation.
  • We're also asked to pray for Gabriel Honce, the 6-yr-old nephew of Theresa Davies. He has acute aplastic anemia. He has a good chance of surviving if a radical treatment which will take about three months succeeds.
  • Finally, I know Kevin Dyer continues to be in everyone's prayers. His parish is sponsoring a fundraiser to help the Dyer's with medical costs. Here are the details:
The Holy Redeemer community is gathering for a Fund & Friend Raiser in honor of Kevin Dyer!
