Building upthe Atlantis frame I bought here a few weeks ago and I've happened upon a rather odd problem. Fender selection; or more precisely lack there of! It's easy to find fenders for 26"wheels, but they all tend to fall into either the balloon tire or mountain bike relms. The Atlantis should take a medium width fender, I thought VO had some at one point, but no longer if they did. I was really leaning towards a Honjo type look, but other then Wald and a few vintage things on ebay, I am coming up with nothing!
Suggestions!?

You didn't include exactly what size tire you want to run on your Atlantis.  A good rule of thumb for metal fender is to add 18 mm to the tire size, 8 mm for the rolled lip and 10 mm for clearance.  Hence a 41 mm tire would call for at least a 59 mm tire.  We have run 38 mm and now 45 mm tires under the VO 60 mm fender on the tandem and it looks fine.  I'll try to post some pics when I have more time.

When I owned an Atlantis (26" wheels) I used a set of wood fenders from Woodys: http://www.woodysfenders.com

I've used the Zeppelin Fenders 650b version on 26" Camargue. It worked out well.

I just checked Velo Orange's site and they have smooth aluminum 60 cm fenders for 26" wheels. Also as I was just discussing in another post  I recently mounted a pair of SKS P65 for 26" x 2.35 tires.

Soma carries some 26" Honjo knock-offs in 45mm and 60mm.

+1 for the P65s. They are light, quiet, and sturdy. I'm running 46s under them. Plenty of room.

OK some good suggestions! Yes the VOs are too wide, I don't plan on running a tires over 2" wide. I guess you can wedge some super wide tires in an Atlantis, but it wasn't really designed for that I have 1.4s on there now & I plan on about 1.75s eventually. Yes the SKS will work, but I wanted metal. Will look into the others.

Then the vo zeppelin 650b 52mm will work

My experience with trying the 650b VO Zeppelins on my 26" wheeled Atlantis wasn't as positive as Philip's. I wasn't able to get a satisfactory fender line using 1.75 Compass tires. If memory serves correct VO's website states the Zeppelins work "pretty well" for 26" wheels. Maybe with a tire size closer to 2.0.

SKS P55s gave a much nicer fit.

Good luck in your search.

60 cm fenders are the perfect size for 1.75 tires, AKA 54MM.  Here is the tandem with compass 1.75 tires and VO 60 mm tires.  1.5 aka 38mm also work just fine with these fenders.

I don't have an Atlantis, but I found the 650b VO zeppelins worked great for me on my old Trek Antelope with 1.75" paselas. You do need to spread them a little to get the radius correct. I found this increased the width from 52mm to about 54-55mm. This left me with a perfect fender line and tons of clearance. You do have to be somewhat careful to spread them evenly, but I didn't find it hard. I'll try to post a picture in a while.

I could have spread the fenders even a little more for a closer fit, but I wanted to leave plenty of clearance for riding on trails (I also used the PDW fender stay mounts with the release on them).  Seems like a pretty good fender line to me.

Thanks, Richard!.  The 650b VO Zeppelins do require a bit of work to get the fender line good - definitely not a great fender line right out of the box.  I almost went with SKS or Planet Bike fenders for the easier install, but I have messed with metal fenders before, and have found it worth the effort once you get it right.  I wish the Zeppelins had clearance for the Compass Rat Trap Pass, but think they just aren't wide enough (even after spreading them).  They are perfect for the 1.75 Paselas (and I assume the Compass Slumgullion Pass tires that use the same mold).

I have some 650b Honjos on my Rawland i think I'll test fit them, then even if they don't work at least I'll have some better idea about which way to go.

Soma carried 26” hammered Honjo but they’ve been out of stock. I had them on my Bridgestone before they got stolen. Is there anywhere else on the net to get 26” hammered Honjo fenders?

Could the Honjo hammered fenders fit over rat trap passes?

Ben's Cycle (benscycle.com) carries a big selection of Honjo fenders.
