I love the bullmoose stoker stem that most or all of us will be getting on our Riv Tandems.  Grant posted this photo on his blahg

It will no doubt bum out some people.  Folks who want to run a particular stoker bar that might not be the right diameter for two clamps at that width.  There are those who expect an adjustable reach stoker stem.  For a tandem made for uprights, I think it's brilliant.  The stoker handlebar is typically a particularly noodly part of a tandem.  This one will be STOUT.  APPROVE.

I love it. I am going to use the Nitto Fairweather Bullmoose handlebar (TIGd) for the front, so this will end up basically matching it in style. I have some Cro-Mo Albatrosses also.

I am just guessing about this, but to my eye it looks like an existing Cromo Albatross probably will not fit on this stoker stem.  The bulge part on a Cro-Mo Albatross is pretty narrow.  The two clamps of this bullmoose stoker stem look pretty wide.

It is my guess (and it is only a guess) that the bar pictured in the stoker stem is a prototype for the forthcoming "NEW" Albatross.  The "pneubar".  The "NooBar".  The bar that they have not settled on a name for.

Hi Bill,

"Folks who want to run a particular stoker bar that might not be the right diameter for two clamps at that width."

Would the stoker stem work with Bosco? or Albatross? or Choco? Aren't those bars less than 25.4mm diameter (away from the central stem area)?

Thanks,

Shoji asked what bars would fit that stem.

I'm expecting to use the bar that Grant planned on me using.  I am not expecting to pull a bar from my pile.  I believe that all the bars you listed are not going to fit, because the bulged part is too narrow.  We will all see at the end of the month, I expect, and if you are eager to find out immediately, give them a call.  It's rainy today, so I expect they are not too busy.

I was thinking that the clamps were on the non-bulged portion of the bar, therefore not requiring a special handlebar.

This tandem is going to be great. A++ to those who pre-ordered. I was really, really tempted, and did not - was not in a good position at the time (or so I thought, then bought/sold a few bikes Haha!) could have...

That's what it looks like to my tired ol' eyes. You can kinda see the underside of the sleeve, and the clamps are on either side. Bars look like maybe flipped Chocos, i.e. with a positive rise? HT sticker on left side gives more clues. Dunno.

The stoker stem works with bosco bars (in stock) and with an incoming newer Choco bar that we are getting in mid May. Same as the other chocos but the clamp sleeve is longer to accommodate the double clamps. Current chocos don't have a wide enough clamp area.
