If the IQ-X is brighter than the Supernova, I wish I'd known about it before I bought a K-Lite ($275 with shipping from NSW Austraila), which switches between a claimed 600 w and 1000 w. Am waiting for the bike to be built on which it will be installed.

I've been on the list since last Fall at xxcycles in France to be notified when the IQ-X is available. Haven't heard anything from them.

bike24 shows the black IQ-X in stock but the silver model is not available at this time. I just ordered the black model, we'll see what happens.

Peter White's website indicates he has the IQ-X in stock for $146. Evidently this light is finally in production. I'll anxious to see how good it is.

I am using the B&M listed @ 50Lux it plenty bright around town, I would like something brighter, but I already have cars flashing their headlights at me as if my light is in their eyes. (Beam is pointed slightly down). It is not uncommon to be on a bike route/lane that runs adjacent to the street & heading towards oncoming traffic so I am concerned about blinding other riders & drivers. Does anyone make a light that is switchable or dims if it senses upcoming lights?

Haven't tried it, but I think it would take more than an oncoming car to make it switch. The manual says the light waits a few seconds before switching when conditions change, to keep the output from fluctuating too much.

I’ve been using another B&M Senso light (the Eyc T) for a few years and have never had an issue with it switching off when it shouldn’t. The daytime brightness seems to be quite reasonable, and most of the beam at night is focused where it should be (on the path in front of me). I’ve never had drivers or other riders complain about the light’s brightness.

The one complaint I have had is when the bike is at very low speeds (often when I am walking with the bike), the light blinks. It’s not particularly garish compared to many blinky lights, but the fact that it is always on is annoying and has led to some awkward situations. I’d prefer if it didn’t blink at low speeds, or at least not during the daytime.

I should also mention this – I noticed an immediate difference when I started using this light during the day. Drivers pulled out in front of me or cut me off far less frequently. I'd recommend anyone using a dynamo setup keep there lights on, and I’d recommend anyone in the market take a look at the Senso lights with daytime mode.

Once i tried a seso type tail light and it wouldnt cone on in overcast, rainy condition when i wanted it to. So i like lights that have an on off switch so i can get light when needed.

Senso only is a bummer. So, what does the switch do? Off or Senso? Does the tail light at least stay on? I've only had senso on the older IQ Fly lights, and it's OK but turns lights on a little later than I'd prefer. Overtaking car headlights fool it sometimes, too, even when mounted on the curb side.

The switch turns the light ( and the taillight) on and off. When it's on, the senso feature is always activated.

I have several B&M Senso-enabled headlights and they never switch off with oncoming traffic. The sensors are in the rear and sense ambient light. The light from car headlights is probably too focused to register with the sensor.

I had the cateye reflex auto light and it would not come on as early as i would have liked in overcast weather.

The manual version works great though.

Both can be seen from the side, too.

I hopefully will get around to wiring up my spanninga rear light one day. That way it will just run all the time when riding. Lately ive been running my edeluxe ii with switch on all the time. Fun to hop on and ride and never have to switch anyhing on and just know they are always on.

Rode home tonight after work with the new IQ-X mounted on my Hunqapillar.  It's pretty nice.  My only gripe is it flickers more at low speed compared to my Edelux II.

I too have an Eyc with daytime running mode and automatic senso-whatever switching. The Eyc does not respond to/get confused by oncoming vehicle lights, but it does flash the daytime high-beam lights when going under Chicago's brighter streetlamps.   I am not fond of that.  The flashing distracts me quite a bit.  The rapid change and loss of a clear beam pattern on the road somehow looks like the lights of a rapidly overtaking vehicle behind me --- at least to some deep, lizard-like part of my brain.

Regarding the flashing at low speed: That is just a fundamental fact of bicycle lighting life.  Both hub and sidewall generators are magnetos, which generate alternating current, the frequency being dependent of the rotational frequency of the wheel. So, LED lights (and to some extent even incandescents) are always flashing as they light up on only half of the time or so.  

To the OP:  I would be very interested to hear about the performance of the stand light on the IQ-X.  The stand light on the Eyc has been a real disappointment for me in that it is just a little too dim to seem noticeable in town.  I know it cannot be anywhere near as bright as when riding, but the Eyc stand light seems much, much weaker than my taillight's stand light (a Toplite Line), even more so than the efficiency penalty of white LEDs.

My IQ-X does seems flash a bit more at very low speeds than my other LED dyno lights. I attribute that to the brighter LED, which probably requires a little more power to light up. 

Anyway, we’re talking walking speed here—get on the bike and start riding and the headlight lights up like any other at a very slow riding speed.

Right. Sort of an unfortunate design when combined with the fact that the light is always on. The ideal behavior is that light would somehow suppress the bright light unless it had enough power to keep it on for several seconds. Sort of an inverse standlight.

I think the drawback to senso only is that, according to Eric's post, you cannot run the full light during daylight. Like many cars and all motorcycles do. That would be a design flaw in my book.

I've been riding with the IQ-X for a couple weeks now and LOVE it. For me, the best thing about it is the fact that it cuts through the shadows and bright areas during urban riding for a consistent view of the road/irregularities (due to its bright output).

The lens is plastic.

You can use any 6 volt Busch & Müller, Schmidt or Spanninga taillight with it. If you use a Supernova taillight, the taillight will have no standlight. I don't know about other brands of taillights, but most should work.

The lens/reflector cover is plastic. If it is like the Cyo lenses, it will survive winter fine. It will eventually get scratched and yellow from environmental exposure. However, a headlight restoration kit from the auto parts store will fix it right up, based on my experience with the Ixon and Cyo reflector covers. In the case of the Cyo, the cover generally outlasted the plastic mounting ear for the light. The IQ-X has a metal mounting bracket, which solves the only substantive problem I had with the Cyo N.

My long-awaited Kelpie will use the IQ-X headlamp as part of the integrated lighting system (along with a Sinewave/Velo-lumino switch and power supply).

Your IQ-X has a metal mounting bracket? I wonder if they changed the design from the first production units. Mine (an early one) has a one-piece split plastic mounting ring with plastic tabs. Can you take a picture of yours?

I think the writer was referring to the metal bracket that fastens to the bike, not the plastic part that wraps around the body of the light.

FWIW, I haven’t had any troubles with the IQ-X lights I’ve installed on two different bikes. The plastic part seems plenty strong, given that the unit itself is very lightweight.

Right. I have one of my IQ-Xs mounted on a metal fork crown mount from another light. The other is mounted to a dedicated mounting point on a front rack. I haven’t used the factory-supplied IQ-X bracket.
